I had a \u201865 AMC Rambler 220 with a front bench seat. That front seat could be fully reclined so it was flush with the backseat essentially turning the interior into a bed. That \u201865 had a three-on-the-tree, as does this car. The difference here is this front seat looks to be a 60-40 split, and it has the optional headrest (I\u2019m not sure if that\u2019s removable, though I\u2019d imagine it probably is).\r\n\r\nWhether or not the front seat fully reclines isn\u2019t a big deal\u2026it was really more of a novelty feature for me.\r\n\r\nIf anything, the vacuum wipers and the lack of a defrost function for the windshield were much more of a concern. I can somewhat understand opting out of the defrost feature (if, as was the case with my \u201865, it was driven by an elderly woman only occasionally; I guess she didn\u2019t foresee needing to drive it on cold mornings).\r\n\r\nWhat I never could understand was why a car company would sell a car with windshield wipers that operated on a vacuum system. To this day I don\u2019t understand exactly how it worked but, the end result was that when you accelerated the wipers would slow down; the harder you hit the gas the slower the wipers would move. Electric wipers were an option on a few makes, including AMC. The vacuum wipers could be adjustable by pulling out the knob so the wiper speed was optimal for your cruising speed. Many American cars between the 1920's and middle1960's had vacuum wipers, if they had wipers at all. My '53 Packard and '52 Kaiser had them. If they don't work properly the wiper motor can be easily rebuilt. Yes, they slow down when you accelerate because the manifold vacuum pressure is reduced. Can you convert to electric? Yes, but you have to scrounge the parts and machine a few parts. My '52 MG and '62 Morris have electric wipers, but they are hardly an improvement. You have to ask yourself if (1) this matters to you, and (2) do you want to experience an old car, or would you really rather have a more modern car with more conveniences and fewer drawbacks?
