But the every day street legal usefulness of the 1973 Yamaha DT3 250 won out, well at least the sale. That bike ended up taking me back and forth from home in Seekonk, MA, to AIT Training at Ft. Dix, N.J. !!! Like 8 times over the summer of 73! That\u2019s right all 276 miles, 4 gallons of gas and little over a pint of Golden Spectro 2T Synthetic Oil, plus 2 ounces of Marval Mystery Oil mixed in the gas that helped keep things cooler. All I did was remove the knobby tires I added the previous winter, then added oversized trial style 5x18\u201d rear, 3.25x21\u201d front, plus a new top of the line chain with new countershaft sprocket with one extra tooth to lower highway rpm by 500, adding a decent cruising speed of 67 mph. That bike ran so well I wanted to ride it cross Country to Ft. Carson, CO, in October. A few accomplished racers achieved some results before moving on.\r\n\r\nDick Mann took pity on AJS Stormers when setting up the rules in the 1980's for AHRMA American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association vintage motocross, and while 1968 Husqvarnas are banned from the Classic 250 class, all AJS Stormers, including ones produced recently in England with modern internals, are allowed. Gas tank colors may have been interchanged, but is otherwise unimportant.
