I went back and forth between a 996 and the XKR.\r\nThe XKR won out. It is fast, handles incredibly well, sounds amazing, and shifts in sport mode faster than anyone can shift a manual transmission.\r\nThe 5 l engine is manufactured by Ford in Britain and not at all like a Coyote, and backed by a performance proven ZF 6 speed.\r\nI was told by many that they are a solid reliable Grand Touring car and there are only two things to be concerned about, water pump and speeding tickets. My water pump went in the first week of ownership and so far have not encountered the second.\r\nFortunately I purchased the car from a reputable dealer and they replaced the water pump at no cost.\r\nUnfortunately I have put it under cover for the winter. Zero body damage; needed a new top canvas and the engine was ticking loudly at 73,000 miles.\r\n So a few months later after much time and money it is on the road and running superbly. Full engine rebuild along with all new fuel and coolant hoses motor mounts etc. Here is my opinion being the owner of three of these lovely Rs and having a Ferrari Maserati restoration business in So Cal; Change the oil every 5,000 miles, from the oil pan drain plug not from filler tube. These cars are without a dip stick and one must rely on the electronic oil level sensor which is frustrating at the least. They use oil if driven briskly and as the years go on the timing chain tensioners are prone to fall as the tensioner is steel and the chain rails are of course soft aluminum. This will result in a chain rattle and ultimate failure. These 5.0 engines are the same exact units supplied in Range Rovers both natural aspirated and supercharged. So if interested look at the forums for both vehicles and be aware of the possible issues.\r\nAdditionally the superchargers can also need work since the couplers can fail. There is a plastic water hose under the supercharger that fails so if the water pump lets go make sure to replace that hose under the supercharger. Enough of the cautionary negatives. This car is stunning and with such low mileage non of these issues should surface. Likely one of the best GT cars out there and for the money they can't be beat. I truly hope that this info is not a put off to a potential buyer just sage advice from someone who knows what is going on inside the beast.
