The car was totaled, but he walked away without a problem. Walks back into the store, has the dealer go out with the flatbed and drag it into the lot. He decides to take the other car on the floor because even if the first one could be fixed, he didn't want to keep it. So his entire allocation was gone on the same day to the same buyer. I have restored all my collector cars to mint condition before selling. The restoration is all cosmetic-normal road rash combined with a perfectionist owner. For example the rear engine lid louvers are plastic and warp from engine heat. There are 2 of them and they were about $1,100 each (thank you Ford Motor Co.) Another example, the driver's side kick plate was slightly scratched from normal entry/exit in getting in and out of the car so I replaced it. Another example, the doors are long and heavy and the hinges tend to sag over time causing the doors to not close perfectly--fixed in the restoration--the doors now fit/close like a glove. I put on 4 new tires even though existing tires were only 2 years old with less than 1,000 miles. Several years ago I was thinking about selling the car and consulted a restoration expert and he gave me a list of things that needed to be done so I bought all the parts needed to bring car back to original mint condition out of concerns about long term parts availability. I have had the car 17 years this month. I will miss it but I don't have any interest in a car that sits in the garage. Actual mileage is just over 4,300 miles. If you do the math I have driven the car an average of 253 miles a year. That's about 5 round trips a year to my golf club. I have gotten into track days the past 3 years (starting with Spec Boxter and now moving into Radical SR3 and GT4 Clubsport) so time to sell the 06 GT to make room in my garage (there is now no room for my wife's car-not a good problem to have). If you plan to tear up this car don't buy it or the restoration was a waste of my time and your money. If you are going to treat is nicely and are a collector, this is your car. It is in perfect condition. You will not find a 05/06 GT as close to near new unless it has near zero miles (and then what is the point of having it). You can enjoy it for another 17 years, restore it and then pass it on to the next aficionado. This car was trailered from Empire Automotive who did the restoration (completed late 2022) and has not been driven since and has been sitting in my garage. I saw a comment about how many of the 05/06 GTs have been wrecked--if you hammer the gas in 1st gear (up to 60mph) or second gear (up to about 75mph) you can drive the right rear end right around the front of the car unless you counter steer due to the massive engine torque (by the way its fun to do if you know what you are doing--you can spin the tires shifting gear at 60 mph). I\u2019d like to add some detail and clarification here to assuage any concerns potential bidders may have about condition of the car prior to the recent round of repair/ restoration work.\n\nWhen this car first came to us, it displayed what I can best describe as 4000 miles worth of use and enjoyment. The owner commissioned us to bring the car back to as near perfect showroom condition as possible, and upon completion his comment to me was \u201cThe car didn\u2019t even look this good when it was new!\u201d We approached each panel and section of the car with a fine toothed comb, and executed repairs in logical stages. We began with a complete overall paint correction and polish job to eliminate as many swirl marks, scuffs, etc. as possible, and then went over the whole car with PDR process to eliminate minor dings or surface irregularities without going into conventional refinish processes. This car had absolutely zero crash damage, corrosion, or major flaws at all prior to our work on the car. It is now as near flawless as we could make it, inside and out, top and bottom.\n\nTo illustrate, I\u2019ll run through some of the repair items in detail here. The windshield was replaced due to two almost imperceptible chips. The front wheels each had minor (less than 1\u2033) spots of rash on the outer lip, and we decided that replacement would give better consistency of finish and sheen than if we repaired them. The engine lid louvers were all replaced due to minor warpage from under-hood heat. The left door trim panel and left door opening threshold trim plate were replaced to eliminate normal shoe-scuff wear. Body panels that did receive conventional paint refinish processes were only to eliminate scratches or minor chips that could not be polished out. All of the under body panels were removed to facilitate cleaning of the chassis and other nooks and crannies with toothbrush-level precision. The front lip spoiler and rear diffuser panel were replaced because the originals had minor chips and flaws on the edge in four or five places. These are just a few examples of the level of detail desired by the current owner. This project was truly a pleasure to coordinate and execute, chasing the utmost level of precision and quality.\n\nBid with confidence on this rare and beautiful GT. It is as fine an example as you will find with anything more than delivery miles. It is wonderful to drive, rewarding when pushed, and as docile as any daily driver when you want it to be. Several bidders hired an independent appraisal company to inspect the car yesterday in person. David Henderson from Empire Automotive joined us for the inspection to answer any question about the pre renovation condition of the car as well as explain in detail the work done by Empire. My understanding is the report was very positive. We did find three things that I want Empire to touch up before delivery to the ultimate buyer (minor paint scuffs and a small dent in right front fender). One of the two bidders flew into Kansas City today to personally inspect the car and after looking over the car extensively indicated he will be active in the final bidding. Here is the protocol for taking possession of this car post auction. I will have the car trailered to Empire for final touch up after which the buyer can arrange delivery directly from Empire. The winning bidder is more than welcome to come to KC to go over the car with David Henderson for anything else you see that needs touched up but it will not affect your obligation to close on the purchase nor afford the right to back out of your winning bid. There have been at least three disinterested people (i.e. not subject to my influence) who have now seen this car in person and they have all been consistent in their assessment that this is a car in near perfect condition.
