When work related travel brought me to OZ my rental Falcons and Holdens impressed me. I bought a 2004 GTO (Holden Monaro) and a 2009 G8 GXP (Holden Commodore), followed the V8 Supercar series and had a good time hanging out at the Canberra Holden dealership when I was in town. May of 2010 in particular I remember because the Holden mates gave me a faceful of crap about why we Yanks got the new Camaro and they didn't. I think most to this day don't realize the reborn Camaro was a short wheelbase Holden with significant engineering support from Australia. Shortly after I got my GXP I installed an MGW billet shifter spec'd for a Camaro, same car, duh! That, a Vararam CAI, clear front side marker lens (I hate US amber) and Holden HSV sill plates were my only mods. Anyway, bonafides claimed, I think the bankruptcy panic and subsequent killing of Pontiac rippled all the way back to the death of Holden. I have pictures from that 2010 visit of Holden Utes on the dealership floor with US G8 grills/bumper covers. I was told there was a glut of the US parts at the factory and they were now an option in Australia. GM was said to be planning revival of the El Camino to bring in the cool Ute variation.
