It cost me $300 from a local gas station, where it was parked on the lot.The \r\n\r\nThe exhaust was almost non-existent - which made it noticeable when being driven around. Mine was a dark green, black interior. \r\n\r\nSome things worked on it - a few didn't. The automatic in these is a BW auto, I believe made in the UK, same one that Volvo used later on the 122S. The power steering appreciated being topped off frequently. The dual fuel tanks really puzzled station attendants (we don't pump our gas in NJ..)\r\n\r\nFinally after several failed tries at repairs and I couldn't convince my wife to use it and we could sell off her Firebird - we decided (actually wife did, I was at this point not making that decision..) to sell it.\r\n\r\nWe lived on the 6th floor of an apartment building in what at the time was the ritzy section of Asbury Park (Deal Lake Drive) - the apartment building was built before car ownership was common, so all parking was on the street.\r\n\r\nI found it a good space, put a handwritten FOR SALE with our phone number on it in the window of the car. I also put one of the rear tables down and put a wine bottle and a wine glass on it.. and left it there.\r\n\r\nA day later I received a phone call asking me how much - I said $300 (hoping to recover our original investment) and the guy jumped on it. He said he'd be over in 10 minutes, and true to his word - about 10 minutes later there was a knock on the door.\r\n\r\nDunno if you've seen any movies depicting men who work women on the street - ie - pimps - but that was the attire of the chap. I asked if he wanted to try driving it - he said no. I asked if he wanted to go over it with me - no. He just kept saying \"I've never seen a back seat that big..\" which was foretelling...\r\n\r\nHe handed me a paper bag of money, I handed him the keys and the title. And he was gone..... and so was the car. No plates, no registration.. just gone.\r\n\r\nFriends who knew about the car started reporting to us that the car was spotted in a field at the other end of town, just sitting there. Then it would be reported somewhere else like a parking lot for an abandoned strip mall. It was being parked all over town in out-of-the-way places, usually for about 4-5 days in one spot, then on to the next. I don't think it ever had plates. That pattern continued for about 6 months, then the reports stopped. Never knew what happened to that Mk-IX, but it sure had a big back seat.. as does this one.\r\n\r\nThere was a MK-IX listing somewhere (here maybe) where reference was made to that being the Queens favorite car for official functions. Of course the Mk2 is the logical heir to this model\u2019s performance intentions, but nothing quite beguiles the way a MkIX does. I used to use my Mark IX to chauffer brides and grooms for their weddings all the time, and I did a fair amount of 'getaway' chauffeuring after the weddings. It's actually really fun to be around people who are genuinely thrilled to ride around in a car like this, even if it's not *perfect*. When I took mine to car shows or events, everyone talked about the imperfections of a 60+ year old car.
