The owner, a good friend of mine, was one of the earliest adopters of this trailblazing car \u2013 having been invited to a private viewing of the prototype roadster in Laguna Beach back in April of 2007. This prototype featured the not-for-production 2-speed transmission and was pitched by none other than Elon Musk. It was this demo event that solidified the owner\u2019s decision to move forward with the purchase of the car, being excited to be one of the first to own an electric sports car from a brand new company; the genesis and brainchild of one of the greatest entrepreneurs of our time. \r\n\r\nBack in 2007, it was only possible to order the Tesla Roadster if it was registered within 100 miles of the West Los Angeles store. Dismayed that his home address was outside this radius, the owner opted to register the car in the name of his company, which did business in Oceanside, CA \u2013 so that he could qualify to purchase the car. The vehicle was promised to be delivered by April of 2008, but it wasn\u2019t delivered until July of 2009, despite being a 2008 model year \u2013 hence the initial titling in 2009. In 2012, following the sale of his business, the vehicle was registered in the name of the owner\u2019s living trust. Finally, in 2014, after his wife passed away, the owner registered the Roadster in his own name and it has been that way since. I keep my roadster stored in the garage and the vampire drain from the electronics consumes about 10mi per week. I plug it in and charge it @ 16A for about an hour and that puts the 10mi back on. I keep my display on estimated range (not \"ideal\" range).\r\n\r\nDepending on the starting SoC , I'm guessing you could put the 100mi on in a few hours at a higher amperage. However, it's worth noting that these cars aren't as sophisticated as today's Teslas. They don't have the BMS and cooling that modern Tesla's have. Doing this on a regular basis is probably going to result in higher battery degradation. I did have it gone over at Tesla and had electronics cleaned and inspected and all the fluids changed for a cost of $800 not bad for five years. The ICE people can not even have their oil changed for that.
