The panel gaps are awful, the engine is out of a Jaguar Mark 10 and the body number is missing. The car's data plate shows the actual engine number of the Mark 10! However, there is no rust on the car, it runs great, and looks good to those who don't know panel gaps.\r\nThis seller should have been more upfront with the suspicious engine numbers (block and head). An engine start with the water temp already at 50C (122F, not 80F as stated by the seller) is not a cold start. The engine started after almost no cranking and the driver immediately pulled the choke down. A cold engine would have died at that point, even in Arizona. The owner never noticed the C in the middle of the gauge? What , then, about the 110 maximum? Doe he think E-Types run at half the temperature of other cars?\r\nWhere are the pictures of the restoration in progress? Shops keep photo records of restorations, especially extensive ones in which the floors, trunk, and subframe are replaced. Because the subframe was replaced, the chassis number (VIN) would either be inaccurate, restamped or missing. Can we get a photo of this number? Can we get a photo of the body number plate?\r\nLastly, to call someone a nit-picker or a troll is to bully them into not speaking. I enjoy BAT because of the insights shared by others. And had it restored twice. I love the color on this FHC, I have always thought that the metallic colors look best on these series ones. This FHC has a lot of money spent on it. It is in fabulous condition. I have shown my FHC in JCNA shows for 15 of the twenty one years I have owned it. IN the Driven class, and I have never received a score as high has this FHC. I keep my E-Type in #2+ condition . So I can still drive it a bit. The undercarriage on this E-Type is at a very high level. As is the rest of the car. Engine number aside. E-Types are lovely cars, and a long production life. I personally think that unless it is an extremely early car (outside Bonnet latch, welded lovers). Matching numbers are not the end all importance. Even in this price bracket. My car has a later 5 speed gear box from the Driven Man. And an aluminum radiator, and better front brakes. All of these changes make the car more reliable and fun to drive. But can be reversed desired. What a stunner!! A very high quality restoration with a drop dead gorgeous interior. It shows and drives beautifully. Now for the nits... nothing is perfect in this world and none of these nits would keep me from buying this car. Firstly, The Big Nit. Yes something is up with the numbers which is pretty evident when you see it. I removed the license plate at the rear of the car and the body number tag was not reinstalled after the restoration. Even the picture frame stamp looks a little odd and that might have to do with a cross member repair that was done? That is either going to matter to you or it is not. The block and head I think have already been defined as non original. There is no restored XKE that is completely original. It's just a question of degree... Just sayin. I think that dead horse has been beaten long enough...\n\nMention was made to the gaps on this car. Are they perfection, no but acceptable. The bonnet gap does wander from one side to the other and this should have been rectified before paint, but appears that it could be improved with some effort but once you own it chances are you would forget it. The bonnet needs to be pushed down to latch which might be that the locating pins need adjustment. While restoring, many of the boot floor welds were filled so the weld marks are gone. Looks much cleaner than new. While I am on paint.. IT IS STUNNING! The pictures DO NOT DO IT JUSTICE!! Couple of delaminations of the paint at the underside of the left front sill and other underside locations. I think David, the seller, will explain what caused that. I will send David the pictures I took so he can post. David stated that he had BAT do the photography and for some reason did not include this issue. Some minor things include the trailing arm bolts do not allow for wire tying of the bolts. I believe the door straps on this car should keep the doors in the open position but the drivers side does not. The turn indicator arm does not return to center after a turn etc. These are all minor issues and fall under the category of maintenance. The car looks great and drives beautifully. This car has caused me to swear off roadsters... my next E-Type will be a coupe... it's just that beautiful! Take it to any show with pride! All comments and observations are of course... The whole issue of matching numbers and original engine and driveline on an E-type is much less relevant than on a C2 Corvette. All S1 E-Types came from the factory with the same size engines and 4-speed transmissions. C2 Corvette original purchasers could choose from a wide variety of power and driveline options ranging from a 327/250 hp powerglide automatic to a fire breathing 427 L88 M22 4-speed racer. Cloning low hp cars into high hp big blocks translated into higher prices and a cottage industry specialized in deceiving unwary buyers. Thus the \u201cmatching numbers\u201d mystique came about and somehow morphed into the broad spectrum of most desirable collector cars including Jaguar E-Types. Again unlike Corvettes there is is no discernible difference in performance of an E-Type with its original components or replacement parts. That is not to suggest that a NOM car should fetch the same price as a documented original in the same condition. It just all depends on how the buyer plans to enjoy his purchase.
