I had the pleasure of owning a royal blue TR250 in early college years. Always was inspired by the thought of 40 more hp! Unfortunately I sold it to a guy who ran it into a guardrail the same afternoon he paid me for it, tried to blame the brakes and wanted a refund. I went and checked the brakes and they were just fine, told him operator error did not make me responsible for a refund! I purchased a late 74 TR6 original CA car and spruced it up and drove it for 100,000 miles as my daily driver! I had the pleasure of having a relationship with Charles, the proprietor of The Roadster Factory and can attest to his amazing knowledge of TR\u2019s. He directed the complete restoration of my car in 2007 with the craftsmanship of his friend Randy in Armagh PA and I have been blessed with a beautiful car ever since! When I traveled from CA to view my car\u2019s completion I got an awesome tour of The Roadster Factory and was blessed to see this red TR5, his TRS and other fun Triumphs. I remember those two days very vividly, and was so sad to hear of Charles passing. Great that his son Albert has been able to continue running the company. My first one went to curator at Simeone Museum in PA, the second now resides in Florida.\r\n\r\nFor the uninitiated, this is the second quickest TR 0-60 8.8 seconds (TR8 is a squidge quicker 8.4 seconds) but maybe top speed (120 mph). Second rarest TR behind TR8. 2947 TR5 PIs built, from CP1 to CP306, with some number gaps.\r\n\r\nThey come in two basic flavors: CKD and not CKD. CKD Completely Knocked Down were shipped to Belgium and assembled there for tax reduction reasons. \r\nTR5 PI is virtually identical to TR4 IRS in appearance except for badging.\r\nThe engine output is often quoted as 150bbhp, 137 bhp is considered to be more accurate.\r\nThe o/d is controlled by the stalk on the rhd side of steering column, it gives a half gear upshift or downshift on 2,3,4.\r\n\r\nParts availability is good. The Lucas PI unit was used on Triumph 2500 as well as TR6 Euro cars. The Bosch retrofit fuel pump is absolutely correct and necessary. The Lucas fuel pump is actually a windshield wiper motor pressed into duty as a high pressure fuel pump. The Lucas pumps vapor lock in ambient temps above say about 90 degrees F.\r\n\r\nSubjectively, these are bitchin' awesome cars to own and drive. You will be munching on TRs, Alfas, and other unsuspecting similar vintage sporty cars. It is a Q ship, because everyone presumes you are riding as 4 cylinder carb car, but you're not!\r\n\r\nI really enjoyed my TR5 PIs. Finish is different then UK built cars with undercoating covering the entire underside and interior bottoms, then painted over body color being the biggest. Interested in hearing from other CKD owners if there's is the same. \r\nAs to this car, those wishing to have it accepted at a National level councours will be dissappointed. The oil leak(s) and a bit tatty underside kill it. Relocate the fuel pump just for safety as in either an accident or road debris could have the pump spewing gas right under the passenger compartment! Plus its a nice heat sink where it sits now For me, I prefer a driver level car, the irony of that last statement w regards to my 5 is loud in my ears as its been off the road for over 10 years now as Ive gotten distracted with an Alfa Ss, Touring 2000 and, most importantly to me, a joint restoration w my son of a TR6.
