From the factory with a 304, floor-shifted 3-speed manual, and purple. My parents crazily bought it new off the dealer lot; got it at a big discount at the end of the model year because, not surprisingly, no one wanted it.\n\nFor me as a teen, was a real blast to drive. But, super front heavy. Upside of that, if you wanted to make some noise and smoke the tires, was you could pop the clutch off the line and pretty much spin the rear tires indefinitely. God help you, though, if there was more than three flakes of snow; it couldn't get any traction and literally just fishtailed all over the place.\n\nThe greatest highlight in it was purposefully catching air over a steep rise/drop on a local road. Was driving a pizzeria co-worker home late at night and wanted to see his reaction. Still remember the look on his face after we went airborne then bottomed out hard on the landing. The car didn't seem to mind, though. LOL\n\nThe Gremlin and the Pacer were two of AMC's offerings that left you scratching your head about the company's leadership. I have a 72 Gremlin with the door striker broke loose. On mine, the door hinges were worn so the striker was misaligned, enough door slamming and it broke the jamb around the striker. Hinges are probably bad unless they have been replaced. I found good used hinges, the left and right door hinges are interchangeable, right doors are usually better, and Hornet hinges are the same. Gotta love Gremlins, I agree with @seller, I get more thumbs up, offers to buy, etc in my Gremlin than pretty much any classic car I own.
