I am a long time Ducati enthusiast and scattershot collector but a first time [non professional] seller -- so please feel free to ask me any question I might have missed and I will do my very best to answer. \r\n\r\nThis bike is one of 310 built in 1994 in Varese: neither Falloon nor Ducati [and trust me I tried for months by calling Bologna incessantly - it does help to speak the language ;)] seem to have a precise count of how many were imported in the US back then, but as per its original bill of sale you can see in the gallery it must be a very early example of the coveted \u201cVarese\u201d breed (it also comes with a CRC-Centro Ricerche Cagiva original key!) . Cowl stickers: I think the 916SP are original, have seen a couple more of these in Italy and they all had it. The \u201cTamburini\u201d signature sticker seems to be added, but again not sure who did.\r\n\r\nWith those done, just wanted to briefly introduce myself in case anyone is wondering where i came out from.\r\n\r\nAs mentioned yesterday, I am originally from Italy but am now based in the US where I now been about half my life. I have been a long time Ducati enthusiast and was right out of college and about to move to California for Grad School when the 916 came out - and motorcycle art was born! As a grad student in the Bay Area during the first internet boom, the 916 was just a dream... all I could eventually afford with my day trading gains (those were the days!) was a 2000 750 Super Sport, the very first love that I still owe and enjoy. This 916SP was a long overdue self-present for my 50th birthday that I have loved every day - and which I will likely regret letting go, but once I consider riding style (not a track type person), very busy work and a short riding season made me decide to pass this on to a new owner. Yes, headlight is recessed, but not sure why. I got the bike that way and tried to take the assembly out and adjust it but was not able to. Since I am not the most skilled technician I opted to not force it to avoid making a mess...\r\n\r\n@Dzdmd Both Falloon (pp 40, will post after typing this) and the site i listed at bottom of my last post say the tail piece has the white number space. But apparently only some of the 1994, which makes sense this being likely a very early model given delivery date.\r\n\r\nAlso, here\u2019s the history of the bike I reconstructed based on the docs that came with it.\r\n\r\nAs per gallery, bike was delivered new to Spiros Gabrilis in Portland, OR in Aug 1994. I am not sure he's active here on BaT, but over text he mentioned he chose this over a brand new Supermono Ferracci had offered which was the same price! Apparently this bike was listed as a \"part\" on the Ferracci 1994 catalogue - you could buy this bike like a set of mufflers or a piston set - but I cannot confirm as i could not find a copy of a catalogue (print or PDF) anywhere. Spiros sold the bike a few years later to @Kie (thanks for the text intro to Spiros!) in Seattle, WA: both remember the sale but can't place it in a specific year, but likely it was 1996 or early 1997. Kie eventially sold it in Aug 1999 to Martin Wong in Sacramento, CA, about the time Martin had started Motowheels from what I can gather from web info. Martin took care of this queen until 2007, when he unfortunately passed away and the bike was acquired by Alex Biton (@GPRACING) of nearby Rocklin, CA who held it for 11 years until I finally bought it from him. @Kie @GPRACING, feel free to add any details i might have missed from our conversations.\r\n\r\nSince I got it, I have not it ridden much - it was a dream bike but too much power for a normal rider like me and i definitely didn't want to wreck it on a MN country road or get my drivers icense revoked. First time i took it out i was going 70mph in 3rd gear before i realized i was 2X the speed limit and decided it was better to slow down. Also, seasons are short here and there is a lack of fun roads like the ones near Florence (where i spent my best times on two wheels between 2005-2007). I did take very good care of it, though: always stored it in a heated/conditioned facility in the winter to spare it from the cold winters and had it serviced by Todd Fischer, a true desmo-head mechanic [AMI graduate, 10 years road racing (5 as an AMA Pro), 13 years as a certified factory trained Ducati Technician and Crew Chief for Rev Up Ducati's Pro Thunder team...the go-to person for Ducati people here in the Twin Cities!].\r\n\r\nAs usual, tried my best. Again, all I know for certain is it wasn\u2019t there when I had it. \r\n\r\nThe uber-trick Ducati Performance white face tach is one rare piece of kit. Finding any 916 tachometer (DP or stock) for a P8 ecu that still functions is nearly impossible nowadays. For my own 916 Varese resurrection I resorted to a custom unit from Speed Hut. If I had to guess, Martin raided the Motowheels parts bin for this DP unit. Heck I should buy this bike for the tach and my old registration. \r\n\r\nAnd yes the details on the tail are custom as already noted. The gold \u201c916 SP\u201d lettering and the style of the outline around the number plate are deviations from factory.\r\n\r\nA 916 SP is no commoner. Sure this one has some details to sort out but that is 1/2 the fun. Hoping Alex (@GPRacing) can chime in as well to clarify what changes were done under his watch and what can be attributed to Martin. \r\n\r\nI did learn a couple new things today as a local watcher/collector came to look at the bike:\r\n 1. Lights are recessed due to the AM carbon fiber headlight assembly - he had a similar one with the same assembly and once replaced it became flush.\r\n 2. As already discussed at length, the tail section is not the original one that came with the bike - hence the repaint. The tail had stickers with the VIV and the one listed is later (an early 1995).\r\n 3. The exhaust intake/out measures are the correct SP ones (this one was new for me, didn\u2019t know this was a difference, you never stop learning).\r\n\r\nWill let him add more if he so prefers.\r\n\r\nPlaque: I am 99% sure Alex told me the plaque was added before him, but I do not have that in writing.\r\n\r\nFor the record, I own three other \u201cnormal\u201d Ducati's:\r\n - First, a 2000 750SS, half fairing version, still 100% original.
