The engine audio track alone is worth the price of admission. \n\nThese cars respond nicely to sympathetic upgrades. Best upgrade is 15 inch wheels and modern tires. Continental Extreme Contact Sport summer tires are just about perfect. Match them with new front struts and AVO rear shocks from the TWOA. To keep the fillings in your teeth, avoid poly bushings everywhere.\n\nIf you value the driving experience over period accuracy (which is of questionable value), strip off the Strombergs and emission control - if you can - and put a four-barrel on. Cat removal and coated headers will allow it to exhale, and will improve the soundtrack even more. \n\nTo avoid a sudden stop in the middle of nowhere, replace the Lucas electronic ignition inside the distributor immediately. It can fail without warning. Use a Crane or Pertronix. \n\nThe text says the power steering pump has a leak. It\u2019s hard to tell from the photos if there\u2019s a leak from the pump or rack. The pump is an easy fix. Getting the rack out and in is not. Perhaps the seller can clarify. \n\nThe heater valve bypass is even tougher. The dash should come out. Requires patience and organization more than skill. While you\u2019re in there, replace the AC expansion valve before you reinstall the other AC bits. It is worth the effort, especially as our summers get hotter. \n\nThis car deserves to be driven everywhere and with a bit of effort, it will take you there reliably in comfort and style.\n\nI go on long trips in mine all the time. The factory AC and added cruise control make the miles easy. Don\u2019t squawk at this. I would describe the leak as more of a seep and I have included a photo of the drip pan below the engine that shows the quantity of oil that accumulates in about 2 months. After 6 months, there is not a notable change in the oil level on the dipstick and the addition of oil is not required between changes.\r\nPower Sterring:\r\nI took pictures of the area around the power steering pump to attempt to help define the cause of the leak. Included is a picture of the quantity of fluid on the dipstick and within the reservoir. This is a cold temperature measurement, and you can see it is low. I have not topped up the fluid since last summer. I cannot tell the source of the leak, but possibly someone can. I do periodically grease the rack.\r\nThe car is easy to steer, and I prefer the feel of the car at this point to what I felt was an over assisted system when the car was new. We arrived to find a V8 Triumph of all things. I was his passenger on the test drive and I remember him saying \u201clet\u2019s see what this has for us\u201d as he took off from a stop light. At the end of the drive I asked what he thought and he said \u201c it drives and sounds like a Ford, but I like it\u201d. Hours later it was his, it was Midas gold like this one. I was 13 at the time and have many memories of the car. We had it on Watkins Glen when nobody was watching once, many fun times, it had low end torque so 1st, 3rd into 5th was common. I spent my Senior year in high school in South Carolina with the TR8 while my Father was working in New Jersey, a bit like the movie Risky Business without the car ending up in a lake. I drove that car to my Senior prom, to the beach, to school and all places in between. If you use the original black plastic snaps they are smaller and don't show as much as the S/S snaps especially on a dark car. If you look at pic #46 you can see the snaps on the door sills. Since I almost never use my top the tonneau is essential for me, that's why I'm on my third one. Depending on how much you use your top you'll have to decide if it's worth it to you. And the $40 distributor cap was a bit of a surprise at the first tuneup. Eventually, the reliability got poor, and when I got my first job after college, I had to trade it in for something new that would reliably get me to work. Even TR6s are selling in the $20K range and there were more than 91,000 of them made. The TR8 was the most powerful and sophisticated production TR sold. \r\nKLBD2x4tr and sliproc: Thank you for your clear and detailed description of the TR8 tonneau cover and proper installation. I think Moss has the Robbins cover on sale now. A tonneau is a great & versatile upgrade and saves so much time over putting up the top every time it\u2019s parked.
