There are certain things you realllly want to look for when you buy one of these -- and seller here has taken pictures of all those places. One thing is you don't want to see any rust around the rear shock towers in engine compartment and also under the front windshield -- and this car looks perfect. I also notice that this one still has the front spoiler attached -- which is super easy to do and all but large number these (most actually) that piece is gone. This is also one of the 1.5L fuel injected models -- which is way better than the older ones - plus it has the both A/C and power windows options. This is one of the better X1/9's I've seen for sale in recent years.\r\nWhile these cars don't have a lot of power -- there is no other car that is as much fun to drive & they handling is amazing. My daily driver now is a Lotus Elise, which is basically just a grown up X1/9 -and the X1/9 is actually better in a few ways. For one, the top comes on and off easily, and you can store the hardtop IN the car when you take it off without taking up any luggage space -- and there is a lot more luggage space in the X1/9 as it has a front truck and the Lotus does not. My college roommate laughed tremendously when i told him with Fiats the manual windows should be the extra cost iption. The crank windows however had a plastic sprocket and they would routinely strip as well. By 82 tjey actually had ones with a metal sprocket . A modest feat of Italian engineering. \r\n\r\nI do not ever recall seeing one of these with this light of an interior but do know its original. Mine was more of the caramel beige color. \r\n\r\nI also do not believe any of these had a driver side mirror. The Bricklin imports post \u201882 did though...my guess this is an add on. I always wanted that driver hand side mirror. At 164k miles this is a miracle this car is still alive. She's covered about 70,000km (43,000mi) and is completely original except for the consumable parts and is almost rust free . I don't think any of the surviving cars are absolutely 100% rust free. It's been mostly a garage queen for the last 35 years. Drive it a bit each summer and attend a few car shows. It's gold with a \"Parchment\" colour interior which is the same as this one. \r\nThe mirrors on this car are mounted in the original location but I believe these cars only came with one mirror on the driver's side until Bertone took over production/sales - the 81 only had one on the driver's side and I think the 82 did as well. The mirrors are Vitaloni plastic mirrors and the mirror glass adjusts from the inside. The wheels on this car are the Cromodora CD91A rims which were available as a factory option. Looks like it has the original FIAT center caps also. I believe the spare tire rims were steel even if the car was ordered with alloys, so the spare with this car doesn't appear to be original. Original spare and tires were Pirelli Cinturato P3 165/70 SR 13's. I still have the unused original spare and rim with my car but the other four tires were replaced long ago because of a tread separation bulge in one tire and sidewall cracking in the others.\r\nFor the miles that this car has, it appears to be in reasonably good condition and is largely original. \r\nThese cars will give you smiles for miles. I've driven a couple of Ferrari 328's and can say that the X1/9 gives you almost the same (albeit slower) driving experienced feeling. They hug the road, corner like a go cart, and the steering is very precise.\r\nMatt at Midwest Bayless is the X1/9 guru, is great to deal with, and can sell you most of the parts. The Lampredi SOHC can rev up to 6,500 making power all the way up and they are tough engines. Five speeds and fuel injection makes it even better! The whole car is only 2,000 pounds. The weight distribution has 50% of the weight within about a foot of the geometric center. These cars are easy to work on and the community is blessed with several excellent part suppliers. You can load a months worth of groceries into the front compartment and still drive home with the roof stowed. It gets 30/36 MPG. These cars are just brilliant.\r\n\r\nBut there is a downside. They will rust if not garaged and road salt will destroy them quickly. Because of this out of over 100,000 cars imported to North America there are only about 1,100 still registered and on the road today. Each year rust, accidents and rat rodders eliminate more. This makes these cars extremely rare in original rust free condition and they are getting much harder to find. This one has all service records since new and you can't add that in later on a car when these become more valuable. Don't worry about a cracked steering wheel or a wonky window regulator. I warned him these cars were finicky and he needed to stay on top of the maintenance. I watched that car disintegrate within two years eventually rolling down the hill in Mt.Adams when the parking break was weakly set never to return to life as it plummeted off Oregon street to the south about 100 feet of the cliff as the riad turned west toward the view of the city/Proctor and Gamble HQ.
