There is two things that usually go wrong - the relay goes bad on all of them, takes 5 minutes to replace yourself and costs about $100. With the mileage it has most likely been done. And 2nd the Crankshaft position sensor (CPS), which is a $50 part and takes less than 10 minutes to replace yourself. My guess is both have already been replaced given the mileage as they fail around 40K miles. This is a Mercedes through and through and some say the M112K engine in these is one of the best Merc has ever built. The horsepower amount was understated by Mercedes back then - the Crossfire actually has 356 like the SLK 32AMG as it is exactly the same engine but they didn't want to upset the Mercedes customer base as the SLK was a little more expensive. To this day, these cars are the best kept secret as they are affordable. This engine was hand built by one engineer at the AMG plant. Put about $1500 in tuning parts in these and you will be at about 450 horsepower. It pulsl strongly in every gear and handles like it's on rails!!. Driving it is great therapy for me. I replaced the RCM with a genuine Mercedes part, new in the box, for $200 and had the old one rebuilt for $50. I recommend getting on the crossfire owners Facebook site as these guys are amazing helping with any issues that may come up.
