He told me at the time that this car (was to the best of his ability) restored to the original glory back in 1954. Which meant, no side mirrors, one sun visor, one door arm rest on passenger side, one square tail pipe, and original color scheme interior, and 1954 Iceland Green paint etc etc etc. So far I\u2019ve not been able to prove him wrong. Is this a perfect car? No! But it\u2019s pretty close! I\u2019ve never seen base clear coat paint job better than this one. Not one scuff, bubble, run, fade or scratch. Absolutely magnificent!\r\nIt\u2019s very difficult to put this car up for auction. Everybody loves it! The guy before me put about 100 miles on it since the build and I\u2019ve put about 150. It\u2019s an outstanding beautiful paint job. When I went to sell an Alfa, I discovered that the VIN on the title was, in fact, the engine number. The original engine was no longer with the car, so the car had no VIN. Someone made a mistake. When you went into a VW dealership back in the 50's, 60's, and 70's to purchase a new Beetle the VIN was always the number on the chassis under the rear seat. If you contact the factory archives to get information about your Beetle, you must provide that number from under the rear seat on the chassis. That number on the front sheet metal of a VW is a part number used in production. You cannot always trust that the VIN on the title is really the actual VIN.
