There was already a comment regarding whether to put this in your living room or drive it. I have kept it in my office at my place of business (climate controlled) since it was purchased. I look at it every time I walk in and out and it has never gotten old. I also like to drive it. While I haven't driven it every day I try to drive it often. As this is down south the winter is not problem but the heat gets old. It has never driven in the rain. I do wish I had more time (don't we all) to play. This car starts and drives well. With the unusual arrangement of engine and transmission, the electric/vacuum/hydraulic shifting, and the startix system I have always driven the car with kid gloves although once to speed it goes fine, I just do not rush through the gears. Judge-Chuck thank you for the information on the steering wheel/horn ring; I had no idea of the misplacement and I plan to straighten that out this week. This car will not be invited to Pebble Beach yet it looks absolutely great and drives like a well sorted car would. I would call this an excellent driver. I will send pictures (tomorrow) of the paint blemishes. Most all of these are something you have to look for diligently. They are not readily apparent to the vast majority of people. The motor is a replacement but it is from so long ago that no one as yet has figured out when except to say it was more than 50 years ago. This was evidently not uncommon for Cords. The Custom Beverly is an exceedingly attractive variant with its longer rear doors and roof sail panel. The taller rocker panels, extra louver in the grille or \u201cfence\u201d and the bustle back truck lid all lend themselves to its overall stately appearance. Studying the photo array provided, this Custom Beverly car seems to be fairly well sorted out and set up to drive and enjoy. Radial tires, auxiliary cooling fan and added temperature gauge, factory 47:10 gear ratio transmission, Cord Bendix brakes, etc. all lend themselves to enhance an already good driving experience. \r\n\r\nPaying close attention to the various test drive videos, the Cord appears to start, stop, shift and drive well. That doesn\u2019t happen by accident and is a good indication of overall mechanical condition. The description notes that the dash lights work intermittently which is most likely nothing more than the rheostat on the dash quadrant. \r\n\r\nFor the record, the \u201creplacement\u201d engine is not a Dodge 225 slant six or a Chevy LS1 but rather a complete earlier 1937 Cord factory engine. The engine compartment itself has been maintained very well with very few noted deviations from factory. The carburetor is an Stromberg EE-15 model but is most likely a Studebaker or Lasalle model. A nice bonus is that it appears to have a tire jack in the trunk which is right up there on scarcity with Type O blood. Some grade 8 hardware is present, non-Cord radiator cap, some plastic wiring, oak spark plug wires and modern spark plugs with bright plating are not correct. All of this is very easily corrected if you wanted to get to that esoteric level. \r\n\r\nThe body condition, assuming nothing has deteriorated since the early 2000\u2019s restoration appears very nice. Fit and finish of the doors, trunk, hood, headlight covers is very nice. In particular, and as noted in the ACD Club certification, the body appears to be substantially rust free. That\u2019s a big deal. The pictures of the original floors go a long way to tell that story. The Dr. Paul Bryant and Jim O\u2019Brien of the ACD Club certification inspections should add to that comfort. \r\n\r\nThe interior of this Custom Beverly started out in Geneva Blue wool broadcloth. It appears that it was changed to the current leather using the proper patterns and trim appointments. In the certification notes is scribbled (best I can read tell) that the engine was rebuilt by Ed Harris, who owned it in the late 60's and into the 70's. Ed Harris was a noted Cord guy and had articles on the marque published back in the day. I drive the car at least once a month or when the weather is good and start it often. You cannot put the car in neutral and walk away as this is bad for the transmission; you have to hold the clutch down at all times. Some owners fashioned sticks to wedge into the seat and clutch pedal to keep it on the floor. So, when I start it I sit in the car until it comes to temperature and I'm done. But it has consistently, if not often enough, been driven in my care of 4-1/2 years and it only let me down once; when I absentmindedly forgot to keep an eye on the fuel gauge and ran it out of gas. Glad to hear from someone who remembers them from back in the day.
