It was at Ace Auto Dismantlers in San Francisco back in 1998.. Paid $200 for it and drove it for 4 years. It got rear ended and totaled... Insurance paid me for my loss, I paid $200 to keep the wreck.... I pulled the engine and tranny and brought the rolling chassis back to Ace and sold it for $50.... Listed the engine and tranny on eBay and sold it for $750 on eBay to a fellow who was going to use it for a Samurai rock crawler swap. It was maintenance free... All I ever did was change the oil and add fuel. Best little truck I ever owned. Great commuter car while in grad school. Bullet proof engine the size of a sewing machine. Mid winter (northern Illinois) would let it run all night instead of worrying about it starting in sub zero. Routinely got 45 - 50 mpg. Yes, very slow acceleration: with 4 people inside, zero to 40 in 20 minutes! Aside from replacing glow plugs, never had any issues with actual engine. Non drive train parts started to fail, and replacements were expensive. Last straw was wiper motor. This was pre internet and best price I found was $250. Sold car for $200 to my mechanic who just wanted to \u201cmess around\u201d with the engine. Always liked the pickup concept.
