I've restored a number of cars over the years, always making evaluations along the way between originality and upgraded. @boom123 As to the discussion on red oxide primer as it appears on this Alpine for sale, I've included a photo as example of a typical area where one could expect to see the two paint types on most Alpines and Tigers of this vintage in their original state. This particular shot is taken from under the car, looking up at the engine right side as it joins the gearbox and nestles through the center tunnel. The upper left area of the shot shows the original base red primer coat and the original Mediterranean blue paint color of the car. As a side note, depending upon the choice of undercoating sealer used by the factory, or by dealers upon receipt of the car, I've noticed on a number of these cars that when cleaning or wipeing away the area for inspection, certain undercoats appear to remove the top paint coat down to the primer coat. Now with the subject of paints out of the way, and with the caveat by @vansters in mind, I whole heartily agree to leave yourself plenty of time should you have in mind to park this car anywhere. A word about a few details of the trunk area, especially those unfamiliar with Alpines. Alpines have two fuel tanks that are located on the left and right sides of the trunk. The tanks are fed by a single flip-top filler on the right side rear qtr. A vinyl \"curtain\" separates the trunk area from the interior rear shelf behind the front seats. A fiberboard material covers each of the fuel tanks. I have the original fiberboard covers as well as sourced composite covers cut in the same pattern as the originals. Both sets of covers come with the car, as does the spare tire and original jack. Originally, the trunk floor had no carpeting. The trunk carpet in place now is a sourced piece, very durable material also has a backing to it. The trunk has spot-painting on the ribs and seams where sheet metal interfaces. I presume this was for preventative care, and in this case, it worked quite well. I've seen these same areas in other cars that were very problematic. In particular, if you look at the floor area just below the latch mechanism there are four plugs, two on either side of the latch on the floor. I believe these are holes used in the assembly of the car, once assembled, the holes are plugged as you can see. The weld seam just behind the plugs that runs along the rear floor is a vulnerable area for rust. But I was already a car buff. In \u201963 my uncle had a job which offered him a new company car each year. He was given a budget he couldn't exceed, but was free to choose his own preferred ride. In \u201963, it was a baby blue Sunbeam Alpine - and it was awesome.\r\n \r\n In the early 60\u2019s in Texas there were not very many \u201cforeign jobs\u201d around. Most people drove Plymouths or Fords or Chevys although some of the rich folks drove Buicks and a select few of the uber rich drove Cadillacs or Lincolns. I had never seen anything like Uncle Marvin\u2019s Alpine. I fell in love with it immediately.\r\n\r\nFor those that don't know, those days were different from today in many ways. For one, the American cars of the early 60\u2019s were not designed for roads with curves. In those heavy metal giants, it felt like the rocker panels would meet the road on turns over 30 mph. The Sunbeam was different. When Uncle Marvin turned the steering wheel of his Alpine, the car went where it was pointed. This trait was extremely important when you consider another significant difference between then and now. Back then, kids were allowed and even encouraged to line up in the back seat area with our asses on the leading edge of the trunk while the little car was tossed around. Unlike its giant American cousins, Uncle Marvin's baby blue Alpine never leaned over far enough to dump any of us out. We all survived and I never forgot the thrill and fun I had riding in that little car.\r\n\r\nAnd so, my first car - which I bought for myself for my 18th birthday in 1974 - was a 1964 Series IV GT Sunbeam Alpine which I still have to this day.
