We are a handful in North America, I know of 4 in the US. 2 in California (one Rosso Alfa, one Black), one in Minnesota (Black) and mine in Rosso Proteo here in Las Vegas. Yes, rare! In total, 1206 were made. The AWD system was developed and made in Graz, Austria by Steyr-Puch so they are indeed quite reliable but also quite technically complicated as the \u201cViscomatic\u201d system was, at the time, quite advanced and was interconnected with other systems of the car (ABS, suspension) etc. so very sophisticated and in case it goes, a warning light appears and you are a normal FWD from there onwards. My suggestion is either you are technically savvy or live close to a great Alfa mechanic who knows 164s, for timing belts etc. and just in case.\r\nThat said, this example has really low miles! For sure its a production year 1994 - the steering wheel gives it away. They went to a different style in late 94 into 1995 (the same found on the 916 coupe/spider). And a late registration is actually quite normal for the Q4, these cars were priced very high and did not sell quickly and so overlapped in the years (in Italy, this car was super-taxed as a luxury AND as an off road vehicle, they even were selling them in 1998 so even more than 2 years post production!). \r\nRegarding this Q4 I would try to find those Q4 specific Speedlines if I were the new owner (alternatively Monza Wheels out of NY has fantastic versions which look extremely similar (if not even better) and readily available!). The A/C control center seems to have the usual missing digital illumination in some areas (sometimes it\u2019s just the bulb connection). Parts are actually not drastically hard to find as some say (except for the 24v water pump ugh!), you need to know where to look ;-) (blinking as my shop has tons for 164s). \r\nWould be interesting to get more info / some sentences from the seller about its history, and the usual summary (A/C works? Timing belts last done when? Etc). Also if any issues have come out in the 800 miles driven.\r\nWhoever buys this can be part of our small niche group for support as much as we can! I would love to see this car restored to its full glory. The undercarriage is beautiful, which goes a long way. This car is not to be underestimated in what is required for ownership - have a mechanic that is willing to drop the entire subframe/engine/transmission out to replace a clutch, and research the bowels of the internet and forums for insights and documentation specific to this car. I don\u2019t know any such mechanics locally in California, so I do it all myself. Perhaps Royal Auto It is exceedingly rare and diagnostics & service really need the Fiat Lancia Tester, which can be found out there. Not perfect, but definitely an ideal candidate to restore and make perfect once again. \r\n\r\nAside from all of the common maintenance needs and peculiar issues with the standard 164\u2019s (specifically the Series 2 with the 24V Busso), the Q4\u2019s require a bit more to keep 100% sorted.\r\nThere are quite a few Q4-specific parts, usually associated with the 4x4 system, which are extremely difficult to find. Investing in a Magneti Marelli Fiat-Lancia Tester (FLT) is also a good idea, as it\u2019s required in order to service the Viscomatic 4x4 system.\r\nI don\u2019t know if this example has had its 4x4 system serviced, but if I was a potential buyer that would be one of my first questions.\r\nAs a potential buyer, I wouldn\u2019t be worried \u2014 as long as you are mechanically skilled yourself or have a competent mechanic that\u2019s familiar with Alfa\u2019s in general. Most parts are not hard to find \u2014 @PezzoGrosso carries all of the essential 164 parts, even the difficult-to-find items.\r\n\r\nUnfortunately this example seems to be missing its iconic Q4-specific 16\u201d Speedline \u201cfaux-split\u201d wheels. They can occasionally be found in Europe, albeit very expensive regardless of their condition. Also as @PezzoGrosso already mentioned, Monza Wheels in NY makes high quality reproductions at a very fair price.\r\n\r\nAs with all 164\u2019s and other cars fitted with the Busso V6, the timing belt service is a major topic. If it hasn\u2019t been done, budget anywhere from $2,000-$4,000 depending on who is doing the work. I have two Alfa's 155 Q4 as well, which are essentially Lancia Delta Integrale regarding engine and drivetrain. Comparing those two 4x4 systems is like comparing Edison's light bulb and and Morimoto Led projector in term of sophistication. My experience with the Alfas, specifically the 164 and Graduate comes like I said from being the Sales Manager for a very large Ford, Isuzu and Alfa Romeo dealership and in addition to managing the Ford sales department, I was also the Alfa specialist. Every single 164 we delivered over 2 years had electrical issues from new and went off the lot with warning lights ablaze. A pity because they were otherwise beautiful machines and fun.
