And the comfort (or lack off) associated with it. \n\nFactory mogs came with 37' tires, I ran them with both 40\" and 42\". Unless one has the higher compression head of a car-based 2.2L I-6, it's not fun trying to spin the larger tires. As others stated, the cabin becomes rather uncomfortable above 45mph, not only due to the noise and suspension set-up but also due to the knowledge that four drum brakes aren't designed to slow the mog down quickly enough, especially if empty.\n\nMost important during the high-speed drive, however, is the gearbox. It is robust, designed for heavy work. It is not designed for continuous high speed unless modified with additional cooling. That can be achieved with the addition of \"finned cooling plates\". The aforementioned side and bottom plates (not a possibility with this specific vehicle due to the added crawler gears) are replaced with machined finned aluminum plates to assist with much-needed during high-speed operation. \n\nThe engine will survive 60+mph, as will the diffs and portals (although they seem to be leaking on this particular vehicle, inexpensive parts from Scott at Expedition Imports, a b*tch to replace), the steering and tires will be okay as well. The driver and passenger will be fatigued quickly due to noise, manual steering and absolute lack of comfortable seating position, especially with the factory upholstered chairs. The gearbox will overheat and die. Kaput. Then you're looking at about $9K expense and a hell of a task. Don't ask me how I know. \n\nOn another note, this seems to be a nice civilized mog, a weekend driver. It's far from inexpensive to source and replace. Even the clutch replacement is anything but simple. Locally (Southern NV), I see them swapped with MBZ 3.0L diesel and turbodiesel motors (cab modifications required), higher compression 2.2L head (simplest hp gain, no mods to sheet metal), 2.8L MBZ I-6 (not mechanically difficult either, although cab might need to come off), or LPG conversions. The space between the frame rail is tight not allowing for engine options, and modifications have to be done to the cab sheet metal and the doghouse cover in order to fit anything with a wide head or intake (diesels). It's equipped with a zenith carb (same as older vintage Porsche, correct me if wrong) which handles various inclines and bumps really well. Due to the fixed fan, the engine sounds like it's air-cooled as it revs (and it has to), but it sure doesn't struggle. I've had the truck at angles where gear and passengers started to fall out and the engine doesn't even stutter. Now, if you want to go extreme (rock-crawling and such), a conversion to LPG might be in order. \r\n\r\nThe engine itself is not a powerhouse, but combined with the portals, lockers, massive ground clearance (surely over 20'' below pumpkins on this rig) and multi-speed gearbox (with two terra gears in this case), you're looking at some serious capabilities. \r\n\r\nJust imagine... you're moving up a hill in first road gear (number 3 on the regular shifter) and the rear wheels start slipping. Without letting go of the gas, you pull the strange \"looped\" lever to the first position, engaging front wheels. Mog jumps, gaining traction and starts moving forward. A few moments later traction is lost again. Without releasing the accelerator, pull the same flat-metal \"looped\" lever, engaging both lockers. Mog jumps forward, possibly all wheels slipping, but still moving forward. \r\n\r\nNow, if you happen to stall (it can happen), while the engine is stopped, shift into first or second off-road gear. Since the truck stalled in a place where engaging/disengaging the clutch would make you lose your hard-earned spot, all you got to do is leave the ignition switch in the first position and press the start button. Don't touch the clutch, let the starter move you (it's built for it). Once you have moved out of the touchy area, flip ignition switch to second, or \"run\" position, the engine will start and you're on your way.\r\n\r\nMany reasons why a mog is considered unstoppable.
