Almost every Europa I have ever seen including mine have a terrible fitting engine cover. Try to find another Europa where the panels line up as well as image 67. At some point someone put a great deal of effort into the bodywork.\n\nThe same goes with the lack of spider cracks. My car is better than most but this car is even better. I have seen early Europas with spider cracks on almost every panel and they aren't easy to fix.\n\nWhile there are a few non-original details like the wiring, front spoiler and Twin Cam rims this is a great looking car. The front spoiler is needed as these early cars tend to get light at high speeds, especially in the rain. I prefer the full sail while the S2 got the power window so a nice and necessary feature on this little car with the less powerful but more robust powerplant in my opinion. Europas are more beautiful in person than in pictures, the sail just doesn\u2019t picture well. I actually like the rear shot of the rear window, she reminds me of the Dino window with some similarities while often she\u2019s not appreciated as it should, most Europa owners would care less. I have history since 1994, I would think this is a California car since my ownership she spend most of her time on hydraulic car wheel dollies parked sideway in front of my other two cars in my fairly large two car garage.\r\n@RidleysRides @wxman there\u2019s no rust on the frame. @1970LotusGuy thank you for your comments on panel fits and you\u2019re correct there are very few spider cracks while all are identified in the pictures. Also there\u2019s no gel coats cracks, now that you\u2019ve brought it to my attention I should be careful not to let my grandsons 5 and 3 to use the front end as a slide after I waxed her, Lol. The front end is very light, my grandson is able to turn the wheel pretending he was racing Mario. I recently replaced the larger 60 series tires with the proper size 175/70/13 front and 185/70/13 rear. I was reluctant at first since the car appears lowered but after some research on the Lotus forum, it is recommended that the aforementioned sizes are best. The height is measured at 41\u201d, little changes before and after. However looks proper and surprisingly rides better now. She starts right up usually the first crank then you\u2019ve to open the choke immediately and let her idle for a minute. Once warmed up the temp gage will settle into the quarter mark even in a warm day here in So Cal she runs cool. The Weber carburetor is reliable although today\u2019s gas is not good for some of the carburetor parts the jet was clogged so in lieu of overhauling the carburetor, I replaced with a new Weber. Most of the parts in the S2 are reasonable and great supports from Dave Bean and RD engineering. \r\nAll the switches, lights, wipers, windows, turn signals, fan, are in good working order. The horn is intermittent, I\u2019ve check with RD engineering and they have both factory style and a mini air horn. With your suggestions may be I\u2019ll order one to go with the sale. I would like to keep it original but air horn would be nice because a Honda Civic is a huge car next to this Lotus. This was after deleting the Cosmics (saved me $125) but included full tinted glass (had to wait a few weeks for that option), twin fuel tanks, radial \"tyres\" plus some nigglies. I choose white because - to me, at least - it made the car look bigger. Fitted real Minilites with Dunlop SP Sports, as well as a Weathershield fabric sunroof. The sunroof was a HUGE improvement to the otherwise cramped interior. My chassis was 0672R; engine 1492. All this said: never brought it home because the 1971 USA Morgan +8 became available, bought one, sold the Europa to an Air Force friend...who subsequently wrecked it - in England. FYI, LOTUS Military Sales & Service did business as Anglo American Autos. If somehow my chassis number car eventually made it to the USA, and the current owner sees this, please let me know. Today a 30 second internet search provides the instructions for the brake booster workaround and also the cross reference lookup for the tailights. I came close changing the set up to more robust design, at one time a friend needed a donor car for his Lemon race car so it crossed my mind for better reliability but the Europa would be too nice for the project, he ended up using a Plymouth Valiant for reliability. A Europa race car sold on BaT got a very good set up using off road VW racing bearing and axle/flange. A crown nut making changing the bearings a snap. All this for both sides for $1,200. There is another option from a machine shop in Michigan, where they would replace the splined axles with three woodruff keys and a larger threads/nuts using all harden steel and spacers $1,350. This modification is less radical solving the loose splined axles design but still using the original different size bearings while the VW axles used racing bearings for better reliability. I seldom fill up both tanks, just either side and therefore half tank mark. Now I just put in even less to ensure fresh gas for the carburetor components. I do not think it got the ZF transmission, May be @jbcollier would chime in, I think it would be a later Lotus Elite. From the BaT write up, the Europa Lotus vehicles, and settled on using the engine and combined transmission/final-drive transaxle units recently released by Renault etc. So I believe the transmission is a Renault unit modified for Lotus, since it was a front drive to mid engine design. I got myself educated on the engine from the write up confusion, so I know that the Lotus engine was not the same as the Renault 16 engine, it got a different engine type certification.
