There are two plastic nubs molded into the underside of the knob which fit into two small slots in the aluminum shift lever. One or both of these nubs has broken off resulting in a slop in the fitment and as mentioned, if pulling up while shifting the knob comes with you. Unfortunately the one piece factory M5 shift boot/knob has been unavailable for some time so short of getting creative under there your options are limited. If yours is already broken then go ahead and look in there the next time in comes off. If not, be ever so careful not to break it.\r\n\r\nRegarding the mileage, the seats look quite a bit more worn than mine despite having half the mileage so that gave me a little pause however the extensive service records seem to line up with the mileage perfectly. My personal opinion is that the mileage is represented accurately. At minimum the paper trail supports it. Reality could certainly be different (there are ways Dude, you don't want to know) but that seems secondary since the car is in such good condition.
