Had a '73 914/1.7 in the early 80s that came with the nasty 4.5\" wheels. I found a pair of the wide 5.5\" styled steel wheels at a junkyard, and another pair at another junkyard (Troy, NY area). I accidentally found the ultimate setup for my car - the fronts were wider offset, from a VW Beetle I think. They fit under the 914 front perfectly, giving a nice wide track.
