Driver side rear has been hit and repaired poorly. Taillight mount opening is twisted outward, causing taillight to be askew. Boot body gaps off. Further evidence can be found at the rear Driver side wheel arch. Kinked. Poorly repaired front inner fender bonnet retention pieces. About to rust through and looks like amateur welding. .Floorboards look bad. Poor repair to passenger floor and might be a big hole up high on driver side footwell. Hardtop is aftermarketI think, no doubt fiberglass but may be wrong. and might be metal. The original curved window has gone MIA. A rather bizarre fix by adding vinyl roof fabric and filling window area with convertible top material. And whole top might be twisted. I want to like this car. It is so complete. But, and sounding unfortunately rather harsh here, 60 years of not very good upkeep and questionable repairs. An infusion of greenbacks will fix everything. Ugh. \r\n\r\n I just finished a 58 TR3; six years of my time and blew threw the budget but ended up with the car I envisioned. 2023 VTR award winner, that\u2019s the result of always choosing to do quality workmanship. If you are starting from the beginning forget Piggot\u2019s book. Good coffee table book. Nice to have but only used in the very end. Purchase \u201cHow to improve your TR3/4\u201d. Study it over and over. Bathroom reading. Memorize it. Get factory manuals and Haynes. Take notes, develop \u201cyour build sheet\u201d and price list. \r\n\r\nMake frame, suspension and braking, steering improvements (Rack and pinion, upper fulcrum, Ackerman angle at minimum) You will not regret. Car becomes civilized. Becomes a good foundation. \r\n\r\nEngine and drive train improvements should include improved bore and tr6 tranny with overdrive. You can spend a lot of useless money in the engine without much gain. So don\u2019t get caught in the trap. ARP all around (Read the book) Purchase parts from Revington, Restorations and the Roadster Factory. Stay away from china low quality parts from Rimmer and Moss. British Parts Northwest offers reasonable name brand quality stuff also. \r\nThis car is a reasonable starting point. But realize $20k+ beyond the initial purchase price is easy to drop into one of these, even when you are doing all the work. Media blasting of the body is $900!!! Surprise. So go in \u201ceyes open\u201d. You might be better off buying a finished car. I purchased mine for $400 many years ago and it was not much different than this one.\r\n\r\nJoin VTR and one of the affiliated state clubs. Minnesota Triumph Sports Car has monthly tech sessions where we work on each other car. Clubs, like forums. are great resources and help when motivation wains. That\u2019s important when taking on this kind of multi year project. Oh and when you think you are done, there\u2019s alway something more to do. \r\n\r\nNo matter what the new owner does, these cars a a blast to drive. It is as much of a grin machine as my C4S, just in a different way. Building and maintaining is a hobby. Just think, Your wife will alway know where you are and where you\u2019re spending your money. Nothing at all wrong with that. Plenty of room in the hobby for all envisioned recreations. And yes, most definitely be wary of those cheap Chinese reproductions. Most often you will be better served rebuilding and refurbishing the original parts. Lots of satisfaction in bringing a part back from the dead.
