The owner has documented his progress exceptionally well and published a series of write-ups on the restoration of this car through \"Giulietaletta,\" a publication dedicated strictly to the 750 and 101 Giulietta series vehicles published out of the UK. The \"Giulietaletta\" is the only publication with a wealth of information on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta/Giulianseries models for anyone interested in these wonderful cars. Not mentioned in the BaT write-up, I furnished the new loom for this vehicle, which is spot-on, period correct, and a quality reproduction of the original wire loom, which I am still offering them despite the word that I am retired. Nice to have with these cars are the period-correct toolkits with all of the proper Weber 40DCO3 special, which I also offer. The last Giulietta Sprint Veloce 1st series Sprint sold here on BaT sold well below their value!!!! I hope this example performs better. Blue Alfas are the best Alfas and the Sprint looks particularly good in a light blue shade. Obviously Alfa thought the same as there were at least four very similar light blues available for early cars. Azzurro Nube is likely the rarest one (other light blues include Azzurro Capri, Azzurro Iseo and Celeste and Bianca Nube which might be this color?).\n\nI was deeply amazed how much stronger the Veloce pulls compared to a Normale. The Sprints are fun but the Veloces are on another level with a significant power increase. These early Giuliettas are one of the best driving experience of a 50s car you can get and it is mind boggling to me that they are not cherished and valued similarly than a Porsche 356. They are easy to live with, easy to drive well and insanely fun on a long trip. They are endlessly tune-able though I prefer the stock set up, especially the soft suspension which to me is a revelation for exemplary handling.\n\nThis car looks superbly done. He tells me he bought it from Paul Spruell in Atlanta, GA, but that's as far back as the history goes, other than i found an Arkansas disc (tax or inspection?) of some kind from 1969 at one point in the boxes. \r\nThere were very few 750Es around at the time and when i saw how complete it was a bit of an obvious purchase. All the important stuff has been done by the right people - Chris Robinson at RM Restorations did the engine and gearbox, the diff was done by Cloverleaf Transmissions. Body and paint was done by Simon Gunney at Redcastle Classics in Cardiff. Chrome by S&T Electroplate in Bristol and the seats by Stanley Trimming in Wells, Somerset. All the brightwork is original. \r\nThe car was titled in Illinois as you can see from the pictures so if it goes to a US bidder I hope that the existence of this old title will help the re-titling process.\r\nIn preparation for the auction I got some quotes for the shipping using the same people that brought it over to the UK quickly and efficiently. Every car has to have one - without a V5 you can't get it taxed, insured, MOT (road safety) checked etc, nor can you order number plates for it. A photo of the V5 was submitted but BaT have chosen not to use it. This would be the basis of any proof of current roadworthiness. \r\n\r\nI also have the old Illinois title which is pictured in the gallery, which states the chassis number very clearly. It is not a \"Lightweight\" version which had alloy lids and sliding perspex door windows, but in total, fewer of these were made. It does share the handmade body and small head lights and eyebrow grille treatment and RE and engine/carb and open rocker panels (no rust traps) features. I have been to Bath many moons ago to visit the seller and he is a stickler for correctness with all the right sources including Chris Robinson in the UK who is a master on anything Giulietta. There was never a rush to substitute things for the sake of expediency. He was patient and precise no matter the smallest detail. Details like reserving the optional outside mirrors was sympathetic to the lines of the car. It's all in the details.\r\nThe later in-period 5 speed is a bonus. I come back to the hand made...process. As an example, my car a Normale of the same vintage was stripped to bare metal and I was amazed to learn the roof panel was hand formed with four perimeter sections and a separate center section all gas welded as one. Regarding the engine work - crank regrind, all new internals inc pistons/liners/valves/guides. The head turned out to have been a little overskimmed - I eventually found a straight one in the Netherlands after quite a search which was lightly skimmed and line bored to ensure total accuracy. The original cams were kept after a significant debate about fitting custom ones. I can't tell you the journal details or ref the liners protruding and the oil pump has not been upgraded but was rebuilt along with water pump etc. My theory was when its apart do it all once - in the context of the total cost of the restoration it just made sense to do so. Compression is a solid 160psi across all 4 cylinders - last tested in the late spring when it went for a thorough check-over and detailing - the main hours ended up being spent getting the DC03s running better, which meant a second rebuild. \r\nOil pressure when hot and at idle sits in the 30-40 range on the gauge and moves onto 60-70ish when pushing on which is the same as on my spider. \r\nIn the video neither hood or trunk were latched as it was going in and out of the workshop. \r\nThe SWF wiper motor does not cam park like my other Giulietta. Just a couple of little-known points to help start you on your way: \r\n1) The last 600 1st series Sprint bodies built in Bertone's old factory on Corso Peschiera, including all 200 Veloce Confortvoles (round figures), had 7 inch headlights. Up to then, all Sprints had the 'small headlights'. How you view the change - and whether you can spot it at all - is up to you, but the 7 inch lights give you a much greater choice of units to see better in the dark.\r\n2) The designation Confortevole was not given in the one and only factory 'brochure' (leaflet really) for this short-lived version of the Sprint Veloce. The word Confortevole was however applied by Alfa Romeo in the press release for this Veloce version. It is therefore contemporary and at least semi-official. It is not, as has been suggested, a designation that was retro-fitted at a much later date. (This is the case with the original Sprint Veloce, which only had the name 'Alleggerita' applied very much later, picking up on the Giulia Sprint 1600 GTA.)\r\nI've learned all this from good people in the Giulietta Register who know much more than me.
