A quick dive on the web suggests this is a \u201849 and not a \u201848 based on both the engine and front sheet metal. I would hazard that somewhere along its history it was separated from its paperwork and was dated based on stampings on various bits. We have a 1960 Triumph Estate that was titled as a \u201859, based on the dated glass (06/1959). Ours is clearly identified as the later \u201860 by the vin # and the updated front sheet metal as 1960 was a transition year - much like 48-49 appears to have been for the Mark IV Minx. Triumphant4a I did a little research on this when I got the car because the pictures of each model year that you find online are confusing. What I found was that 1) car companies weren\u2019t as by the book back then with model year changeovers and sometimes did early model updates without updating the model year, and 2) the car that I have seems to be a very early serial number of the updated Mark IV\u2019s that probably is a genuine built in 48 model that continued on into 49. My mother hated the car. My father loved it. In it's wisdom, Rootes converted the car to left hand drive seemingly forgetting that the column mounted gearshift lever gear shift had to somehow connect to the gearbox. The result is a backwards gearshift pattern. The plate on the dashboard explains it. My mother couldn't master that. This is a beautiful car, although I have never seen one with two tone paint. I have a lovely red 1955 Hillman Minx convertible and it is amazing how much attention that car gets whenever it's out and about - especially at car shows. At our Western Washington All-British Field Meet this summer I noticed many spectators making a bee-line to check out the Hillman out of a field of 300+ cars. Actually mine was one of two Hillmans as my friend brought out his equally nice Hillman Husky for people to enjoy. So imagine my surprise when at the end of the day the MightyMinx received the President's Trophy - beating out a lot of expensive British cars.
