It has never been damaged, I've had it for 19 years. I think it is just due to internal stresses in ageing plastic. The surround foam on mine also had similar damage; it was chewed or pecked at by a critter. The foam is cheap to replace. Sadly the dealer only sells a whole speedo, not the bezel and lens separately.
