Date of manufacture was May 22, 1968. There is a Facebook Rickman group and this is pretty similar to the Steve McQueen Rickman 650 desert racer. The British Rickman frames were so much better than the Japanese frames of the 60's. Having a 1965 T100SC engine as @ambike1 noted is kinda cool in it's own right, but if you want to use the bike in anger as Don & Derek intended, a later engine with \"proper\" timing-side main might be a better bet... But hey just change the oil after every track day and that bronze bush should do just fine! \r\n\r\nLots of nice parts on this MKIV - front forks appear to be 35mm Ceriani MX forks, which is always the first choice for a bike like this. Ceriani forks are such an important feature of the bike they REALLY should be called out in the description. And what the heck since we're here I might as well air out my tired old rant (those of you who've suffered through this rant before just skip to the next paragraph!)... Here we go: YES it still bugs me after all these years that BaT insists on referring to motorbike front suspension components in the collective singular form, contrary to pretty much the entire motorcycle universe (at least the segment of the motorcycle universe that grew up with bikes like this Rickman!). To me, a \"fork\" is a device for eating dinner or tuning a piano. If you are talking about the bits on a nearly all motorcycles built after WWII that keep the front wheel from wandering off, then it just has to be front \"forkS\"! I get it that when assembled it's all one lump of metal, thus the singular form is not incorrect from the perspective of a high school english teacher, but grammar has nothing to do with it! It's all about real-world usage and respecting the motorcycle lexicon... To call it a \"braced telescopic fork\" just offends my senses in every possible way! OK this is mostly tongue in cheek (but NOT all!)... And for the love of god don't get me started on rubber knee \"bolsters\"!!! I thought BaT had finally moved away from this absurd term for gas tank knee pads or knee grips, but NO, it is reappearing in some recent listings... Sheesh... The only time a British bike rider ever comes anywhere close to the word \"bolster\" is when you're trying to make your riding buddy feel better when he's stranded by the side of the road after all the Lucas smoke has escaped from his bike's wiring harness!! \r\n\r\nRant over - I promise I'll wait at least a year before dusting this one off again...\r\n\r\nNow back to the bike in question - the Rickman wheel hubs on this bike are both painted - like you'd expect to see on the magnesium hubs Rickman made for the MKIII - whereas as far as I know hubs on a MKIV would usually be polished aluminum. Could be just something that was done when the bike was restored...? Hard to tell from the pics, but it looks to like the rear hub might possibly be the uber-rare \"bigger\" hub with finning that actually was cast in magnesium - anyone else care to chime in here? @seller @bigshow2008 could you maybe measure the diameter across the rear brake plate?? IF I'm anywhere close to right here, this would definitely be a big plus and should also be called out in the listing I would think... But I could just as easily be completely dazed and confused...\r\n\r\nI see that the gearbox outer cover has been \"trimmed\"... Not a bad idea for an off-road bike - my first \"real\" dirt bike (1969 Yamaha JT-1 mini enduro does not count!) was a 1966 T100C and this empty space behind the gearbox cover \"extention\" would always get packed full of mud and was a pain the rear to clean...\r\n\r\nOverall a really REALLY nice example here! \r\n\r\nMany of you who've been around Rickmans for a while will remember the name Lynn Wineland of Target Motor Sports in Apple Valley, a gent who I met on the AHRMA MX circuit back in the 90s, but never really knew much of his history before he died in 2009. And what a history he has! (google him if you're interested). He was essentially \"Mr Rickman\" in those days, helped me out with parts and advice on many occasions and was as close to a scholar and a gentleman as anyone I've ever met. \r\nI have MKIV #1240 with a BSA B50 engine for motocross, had another MKIV with a race B44 Victor engine for many years, set-up for street, probably the best-handling motorcycle I have ever owned... I had a Rickman 750, bought new in the early '70s in Northern Virginia. It had a Royal Enfield engine that was chewing up a bronze bushing in the transmission. I changed the oil very frequently, it always came out like liquid gold. A very stable bike, either at \"speed\" or at a slow walking pace.
