This is a gem for sure\r\n\r\nQuickly touching base on chains: Timing chain failures are not a given at a certain age or mileage, just so everyone knows. The maintenance and frequency of oil changes is what will determine if and when they go. JLR had ridiculous service intervals for these cars (every 15k for an oil change). That's ludicrous for even today's standards. \r\n\r\nThere are owners out there who made it a point to change it at 5000 to 7500 mile intervals. If you find one with those kind of records, you could theoretically have chains last well into the high 175k mile mark or more before they start giving you signs they need work. Hence why maintenance is such a crucial part in staving off the job for as long as possible. \r\n\r\nIt's a stupid design on Land Rover's part no doubt.
