The first took a long while to identify the problem. Initially tech thought it was a sticking valve (extremely low mileage car) and had the head rebuilt. Didn't solve the problem. Upon close inspection during running, noticed the harmonic balancer had a slight wobble to it. The HB has a spot on it that is supposed to pass directly over the crank position sensor at each rotation. Turns out the rubber half of the HB had partly broken away from the steel half of the HB and had (in its out of round condition) smacked the CPS and damaged it too, leading to the engine management system not quite sure where TDC was, and thus the misfire and rough run. Problem solved with a new HB and CPS. Had the same thing happen to a subsequent 300CE and that was the first thing I looked at, and it too had the same failed HB damage.
