Any of Chryslers available engines, from 383 through 440 along with the 727 Torque Flight were considered by the industry insiders as the best available in any car, anywhere at any price. \r\n\r\nThe majority of law enforcement opted for junior versions of this car in Dodge and Plymouth models using the same underpinnings. Cops knew a Mopar squad would corner flatter and keep up in nearly any pursuit. \r\n\r\nToday I use my New Yorker as a daily driver all summer long. Its air conditioner delivers plenty of chilled air and the 440 doesn't flinch when the big RV2 compressor kicks in. Case in point: here is a better than average example and the rod bearings and/or crank bearings were knocking at 88,000 miles. \r\nRegarding the engine replacement: the $4600 for the re-build job seems low in comparison to today's Internet prices, especially with a middleman involved. Maybe just the rod and crank bearings were replaced and a coat of Chrysler blue applied.\r\nAlso take note that the two leftmost numerals of the odometer are askew, a sign of possible tampering. It is surprising that in the twelve to 14 months between the engine work, Oct. 2022, and the photo, the car added 21,000 miles to the odometer. The extreme rust under the hood suggests extended long term storage, and while this rust is not doomsday under the hood, where else has such rusting occurred, unseen?\r\nThis car has some definite pluses: sound body and glass, extremely good upholstery and headliner, dash, steering wheel, rims and tires, and caliper brakes. According to the mechanic I went to, they rebuilt the block and the heads and then reassembled it back at J&E in Richmond. On the odometer, that is the correct mileage. J&E put the mileage as 87717 but it should have read 07717. Currently it is at 09163 putting the mileage on the new motor at just under 1500. I am positive the odometer has rolled over seeing as the previous owner used to take this thing up to Tahoe with his family on the weekends. \r\n\r\nI spoke with my dad and apparently, prior to the engine rebuild, he was trying to figure out a charging issue and the wires caught fire and caused some heat under the hood. This may be the reason for the accelerated rusting underneath the hood. \r\n\r\nLastly, if anyone is interested in inspecting the Chrysler, please let me know. I will be available tomorrow morning and Sunday. The disc brakes are Budd 4 piston calipers & possibly optional in this year. They are needed. If this sells for less than $15K, it is highway robbery. From a 59 New Yorker, to a 64 Imperial Crown Coupe, to finally a three row 68 Chrysler Town&Country Beach Wagon, he special ordered after Mom told us we were going to have another sibling, to add to the three of us kids. So his beloved Imperial had to go for a wagon, but not just any wagon! No a loaded Town&Country Beach Wagon. In dark metallic maroon with matching leather three row interior, AM/FM/8track with 4 speakers, power everything, chrome everywhere including roof rack with handles on both sides of the power rear window and chrome steps on the rear bumper. Powered by what else but a 440/4 brl TNT Dual Exhaust, with a trailer towing package for the family boat, that came with a 3:09 posi rear. Dad kept that amazing hauler till we all past our drivers tests in it and then some to 1989, with 169,000 miles, with only normal maintenance and freeze plugs. In one night about a month before he sold it to a wonderful Italian family, I had that wagon going so fast the speedometer needle went passed 120, then to 9 O\u2019 clock on the clock just Rt of the speedometer!
