SD0282 is a VERY rare find indeed. Apparently it has a history of only two long-term, knowledgeable, and loving owners. The production date seems to be late 1972 or early 1973 equipped for the North American market. It has sealed beam headlights, side marker lights, all amber front parking lights, side moldings, rear license bracket/lights, and no doubt came with an air pump on the engine. The late 3.0 liter engine and automatic transmission is a very nice running combination. Since aprox. 13% of the '73 model SM's were AC095, gray, exterior I assume that was the original color. Perhaps the seller could read the round paint color tag and inform us.\r\n\r\nFor what it's worth, when I looked to buy my SM I found that the black leather interiors seemed to hold up better that the tan/brown. Looks like a good interior shop could save most of the original leather.\r\n\r\nThis car appears to have stainless headers and exhaust, updated A/C, correct tires, books, papers, records, and extra parts. Most importantly a knowledgable, long term owner who spared no expense to keep this car correct in every way. Now that adds VALUE and piece of mind.\r\n\r\nThere are questions about sodium filled exhaust valves, timing chains, and auto verses stick, but when one looks at the whole package I think it is doubtful that any important items were neglected.\r\n\r\nA good running, late 3.0 liter, automatic SM will run 80-85 mph in the left lane, in quiet comfort all day long. How do I know? I've done it! None of my grandchildren could drive my SM if it were stick.\r\n\r\nI would advise anyone wishing to learn more on the mechanics of these cars to read Roland Faragher-Horwell's \"SMrevival-wordpress.com\". It's the story of Roland reviving his father's fuel injected SM. I tip my hat to @QuilceneRoland. Sure wish we lived closer to each other.\r\n\r\nI would like to advise all that I have never seen this car and, to my knowledge, have never met anyone connected to it. The inner fenders came from the factory looking dull as they didn't get the same attention to painting, clear coat and polishing as the outer body (when you see inner fenders that are shiny and matching the outside on an SM, you are looking at a repainted inner fender that was not repainted as original).\r\n\r\nI agree - this car has all the telltale signs of having received recommended upgrades and maintenance (new oil cooler lines, rotary AC compressor, etc.). It came in AC082 (Silver) and according to the records this color was on 19% of the 1974 models in only one year. My car was painted once in a near match, but under the hood has aged some and not nearly as glossy. Your experience is therefore the same as mine.\r\n\r\nYou might be interested that David Hume pointed out that my car was actually assembled by Ligier outside of Paris and although the books with the car show fuel injection it appears my car came with Webers. I have read that Ligier started assembling some of these \"export\" cars (ex: yours to Switzerland) concurrently with Citroen assembling cars, so David's observation makes sense.\n\nI suspect you have an owner's manual for an injected car (SC series). Your car, being an SD (like the one on auction here), was only offered with the 3.0l and carbs (3.0l was never offered with injection). \n\nThere are 3 versions of SM as follows:\n - SB: 2.7l with Carbs\n - SC: 2.7l with Fuel injection (only available with manual trans)\n - SD: 3.0l with Carbs\n\nSC & SD were the both made in parallel until the end of production. \n\nRegarding injection vs. carbs - the bosch injection is a bit intimidating initially, but once you have it understood and sorted, it is AWESOME!!! Since figuring it out on mine, I have been able to help a few other owners of injected SMs get their cars purring like new. I was struck by its very free-revving engine, and Citroen's highly advanced hydraulics were/are still far ahead of 99% of today's market. The ride was incredibly soft -- and certainly too cushy compared with my race-prepared Alfas at the time, what with their teeth-jarring hard suspensions. Even with a Maserati engine, it could not fit my immature image of a sports car. Plus, while it looks like a million dollars when the car is in the lowered position, gads, when it's elevated to driving-level, those rear quarters make it appear ungainly with its rear too high, making the back half seem disproportionately misshapen. I have noted that pix of these cars are always taken when in the lowered position -- and for the reason mentioned. However, I'd never eliminate the suspension hydraulics: Citroen's hydraulics that allow almost total control of suspension height right from the cockpit was super-advanced, and changing a tire is so easy that it makes one wonder why other cars did not adopt a similar system. I doubt if the price will stay within a few thousand of the present bid, but if so, I'll get the car!!
