We pulled over and barely got cleaned off, can you imagine that sight. At this time of year, my dad found a hard-top from somewhere and it was fitted that dreadful day. So we are on the 4 lane in this baby blue Spitfire, He's smoking his Parliament cig and he's finished and flicked out the window. It was a little chilly so he had his window up. So we are still about 30 miles from home. It's been a helluva day for my Dad, and no, we did catch any fish, we usually we went out for snapper blues, but it's March so we had gone out for cod, this boat is about a 60 foot party boat, so we just went for an expensive boat ride. the boat was named the Mijoy. Yeah, Mijoy my a55. So we were still pretty far from home. my dad and I smelled smoke, there is a small space behind the seats in the Spitfire and my denim jacket was back there. Remember what I said about his Parliament getting flicked out the window? So we thought, that cigarette came right back in and landed on my jacket. That jacket was crumpled a bit, but the cig found is way into a wrinkle and starting to burn, the inside was getting smokey, Dad rolled down his window as did I. we got over to the side of the road, I pulled the jacket out of the car, beat on the ground till it was out. threw it in the car and we took off and laughed all the way home. The bung was added when Redline Restorations in Bridgeport, CT, installed the exhaust system that I had designed for the car. The bung is located just aft of the final collector. You can see it in Photo No. 99. I removed the sensor (and replaced it with a plug) because I made it transportable using alligator clips for power. It is now in another car I have in order to tune a modern Holley I just installed in it. And yes, you have a great memory. The car was at British Invasion XXXI. In regular daylight, you cannot see it unless you look closely for it, but I wanted all interested parties to be aware of it, hence the photo to exaggerate its visibility. Pic 42 shows a small rub in the paint behind the driver side front wheel caused by the mounting of modern size tires by the previous owner. The tires have since been replaced with Michelin XAS which are slightly narrower and so do not rub. I do not have touch up paint but any good body shop can mix it up for the next owner. And the paint is not a custom color. However, in all of my vintage cars, the oil pressure runs high until the oil has had a chance to warm up, which is typical. This is especially true with heavier 20W-50 oil which is what I use in all of my cars (PennGrade f/k/a BradPenn because of its high zinc content which is recommended for flat tappet engines). While it was in the high 50's the morning I did the cold start, it was in the low 40's the night before. And my garage heat is set to maintain a minimum temperature of 45 degrees. So, the engine was pretty cold when I rolled it out of the garage for the video.
