With a few simple improvements, this car went from 0-60 in 15.5 sec to 0-60 in under 12 seconds. That quite fast for a normally aspirated '93 240 wagon with a 4 speed automatic transmission. I had a lot of fun replacing every seal, hose, gasket, belt, and bushing, all the ignition and fueling components, plus suspension and brakes in this car. For cars of this and similar age, they offer a replacement insurance that is more like life insurance for a car, more than the typical collision damage insurance. You (the owner) substantiate a fair value based on recent sales, and you buy an amount of insurance up to that amount. If the car is damaged for less, it gets fixed. If it is damaged more, you get the full insured value (Hagerty appraised this car for replacement cost of $16,000). You might think that's high, but that was what we negotiated in 2020 when I put the car on the road. For information on the pros and cons of buying/owning/insuring/and registering a car with a rebuilt salvage title, I found this website by the nonprofit \"Upsolve\" to be authoritative, and very helpful: https://upsolve.org/learn/salvage-title-cars/. Check your state to learn about the process before you bid, but it really isn't a big deal in NY, and we're about as heavily regulated as you can get. It took me a day at the DMV garage in Rochester NY for the inspector to find.... nothing, just as had been found by the DMV inspection in CA when the rear hatch was replaced (the event that \"totaled\" the car). In the case of this car, the nature of the damage is well documented, minor, and has been completely repaired and certified in the two fussiest states in the US. Still, it has the \"brand\". Just check your state regulations to see what's what. Due diligence is not that difficult. It's all online. I'm very happy that I didn't pass on this car back in 2019.
