He found the original motor and told me he had it rebuilt and installed back in the car. My research confirms that the numbers are correct for a '61 283 including the casting date. I also confirmed that 1961 283 did not have painted value covers (the bigger engine did). \r\n\r\nThis Vette was only driven a few times a year on short trips around town and in parades. However, when visiting my Dad, I would take it on longer trips (100-200 miles) and truly drive it once or twice a year. The tach still works well and I've pushed the car near the orange line. I don't believe the odometer was ever touched but the current motor has far less than what is shown. I believe the horsepower for this 283 V-8 is 230-hp on a 4-speed manual in 1961. (please correct me if I'm wrong) According to the handful of mechanics I've worked with the car is solid. It starts right up and sounds great. \r\n\r\nI provided detailed photos of the matching hardtop but for some reason BaT did not post these. I'll see if I can request or add these myself. \r\n\r\nThe original Wonderbar radio and speakers work well. \r\n\r\nI've had 7 mechanics look over every inch of this car in the few years I've owned and driven it, and all state it is solid with no issues they can find (see receipts for the work I have completed, including brakes and engine mounts). Most of these mechanics have had this on a lift. All said they had no concerns about rust or structural issues. In fact, I was told the under-carriage patina was a plus and beautiful. Did my best to photograph this.
