Look at that stack of receipts for parts and service. That shows you the car has been maintained to a very high standard.\r\nThis is a good spec TR8. No a/c gets rid of around 150 lbs of weight, most of it on the nose. The engine-driven fan eliminates one of the a/c-equipped TR8's electric nightmares -- the twin electric fans which almost always never work properly.\r\nI'd fix the front bumper droop, add a set of TR8 decals (easily available), and get rid of that roll bar. Fuel injected California model. Pretty nice car. Smooth engine, good performance, great sound. 'Liked the gearbox, clutch. Not too many problems over the 6 years we had it. Replaced an exhaust system due to rot. One set of plug wires when it refused to start one day. Other than that, it was essentially trouble free. \nI don't know why anyone would remove the roll bar to fit a tonneau, as any tonneau can be fitted around a roll bar with a couple of short zippers. Pretty simple job for any upholstery shop. \nAs I recall, it sold for around $8500 in '86, when I bought the Porsche 944 Turbo for Mom. We still have it, but the cost of ownership of the 951 far outstripped the total cost of the TR8... Amazingly, British V8 was less expensive to own than the German Turbo 4. Total warranty service on the Porsche exceeded the total price of the TR8, in the first two years of ownership... \nThe TR8 is more refined than one might think, and the first drive in a well cared for one will impress with the smoothness and easy going nature on the open road. Also of late there has been some concern about the safety of running a roll bar in a street car since you're more likely to get rear ended than actually roll the car. In a rear end collision there's a strong likelihood of smacking the back of your head against that steel bar. They were quick in their rime, 130 hp,. 8.2/` compression, and mine had a Huffaker racing rollbar, and was de-smogged. Lovely exhaust note, good brakes, and were just great sports cars. This one looks nice for age and miles, and perhaps wouldn't take much to \"restore.\" Lots of British mods and upgrades on the British web sites. I have watchecdthe Group 44 racing team with Bob Tullius back long ago. Road & Track got their carb car up to 130 mph. 0-60 in 8.4 seconds.
