The floor pan was cut out at the factory and this plate was fabricated to allow enough travel for the differential. The Lotus Cortina's sat a few inches lower than the stock Cortina's. There were two versions of the Mark I. The earlier had rear coil springs and the later had leaf springs. The front turn indicators in the earlier car were separate from the grill facia. Later version were incorporated into the grill like this car. About 1500 cars were built in total. \r\nThey were not cheap and hard to sell. Like the Shelby 350's they sat on the show room floors for longer than expected. I have my original window sticker from my car and it was about $900 more than the Shelby 350 Mustang. Also the Lotus twin cams were very foreign to buyers that thought they would be a problem which was not the case. This motor is used in a multitude of race cars and it can be built to produce over 200hp. Ford used this car to promote its first unibody and Ford overall. Power to weight and with big horse power these cars were a kick to drive. The factory race cars had aluminum door skins, hood and bell housing. My car had a 175hp and it was bullet proof for years. All the power came on over 4k rpms.
