She\u2019s not much of a car gal, but has always liked Jeeps, and we (and our puppy) loved the idea of cruising around Atlanta with the doors off all summer. I was thrilled to find this \u201centhusiast spec\u201d example and was happy to hop on a plane to pick it up.\r\n\r\nFast forward 9 months and I found myself at the Barrett-Jackson auction on a work trip with little self-control and decent assurance from my now-fianc\u00e9e that she wouldn\u2019t call off the wedding if I came home with a \u201csouvenir\u201d. Long story short, I now have a caged 1989 Dodge Ramcharger that badly pisses gas, and no garage space for my Jeep.\r\n\r\nDuring my ownership period, this Jeep has been totally unproblematic and surprisingly rattle and squeak free. My goal when buying it was to have as pure of a Jeep experience as possible in a modern package, hence the roll-up windows and 3rd pedal. I originally had plans of turning it into more of an off-roader, but my priorities shifted towards an engagement ring. Thus, I ended up never taking it off the pavement. My best guess is that most of the miles were highway, which would make sense given that the vehicle was bought in Maryland and driven around NC. The clutch showed no sign of slippage before I replaced it at 103k (it was a free recall so I figured it was worth doing prior to selling), and the Jeep has (anecdotally) felt far more \u201csolid\u201d than others I\u2019ve been in. I've known the seller for a few years now and he's a particular sort of car enthusiast you'd want to buy a vehicle from. His Wrangler was super clean to boot. A lot of people buy these cars as disposable adventure vehicle or first cars for their kids, so they get beat on -- I've seen a lot of them with half the miles in way worse condition.
