The coach doors are so elegant and rare. In 1967 the 390 V8 was the standard engine and that was adequate for the majority of buyers because it was pre smog control. The 428 V8 was not optioned by many buyers. Likewise, cruise control was not selected by many buyers. Interestingly models with cruise control came with an entirely different steering wheel. These are fascinating cars, especially the fordors. The 1967 model was unique in many ways. It was the first and last year where bucket sears and a center console were standard. Also after 1967 the door openers were changed and the dashboard was redesigned. The uniqueness of the 1967 model makes it difficult to find correct replacement parts. Two of them were a Ford Thunderbird and Buick Riviera. There was very little praise for the T-Bird. In fact their criticism was at times quite harsh. Here is what they had to say about the T-Bird's handling: \"The Ford Thunderbird's handling was way under par. When negotiating corners at our test track at our controlled speeds, the Thunderbird couldn't seem to make up its mind whether to plow straight ahead with its outside front tire rolled under (and smoking) or to oversteer abruptly, with its rear tires rolling under and sliding. Bumps encountered while cornering caused wallowing and lateral skating. The power steering transmitted no feel of what the front tires were doing.
