I also personally put about 50 miles on the car on some lovely back roads around Eugene after the service was completed. The car was purchased new by current owner and has resided inside storage ever since. We have serviced the car 3 times over the last 25 years or so. Prior service to 2023 was probably just an oil service. If my memory serves me correctly we have done the belt service twice. Belt service was due by time not miles. The failed headgasket diagnosis was made by a shop that was not familiar with the warm up characteristics of a vintage Turbo Esprit. The exhaust vapor was mistaken for coolant. They were just being cautious as they are a well respected Mercedes Gullwing specialty shop and we're just getting Lotus running as a favor. We tested the cooling system for presence of hydrocarbons with our infrared and found none. The infared reads in ppm and even slight headgasket issue would have been detected. So none present at that time. The recommendation of brake master and hoses, wheel bearings were a by time and age not a failed part need. We did run a new stainless hose for the clutch hydraulics to replace troublesome red plastic line. I remember driving one of these back when they were near new and being amazed by the suspension capabilities. The knocking noise which can be heard in the 4th video could be a rod bearing but I think it is most likely the vacuum pump. When there is a leak somewhere in the vacuum lines it can sound like this. Notice that the noise becomes louder as you move to the back of the car. This is because the exhaust from the vacuum pump is routed through a hose by way of the frame to the back of the car. You can check if it is the pump or a leak by 1st blocking off the vacuum side of the pump and see if the noise goes away. If it does, you can subsequently block off each of the branches in the vacuum line to determine where the leak is located.\n\nThe Sony stereo system in this car I believe is unique to the commemorative edition. Note that there is a graphic equalizer located just above the radio. There is a 10 CD (cartridge type) changer located at the back of the center console. You have to remove the plastic tray to access the CD changer cartridge.
