The Carbera Speed 12, a car which you need to know if you are even vaguely interested in this auction, was one of the fastest cars in the game. And the design just had something that spoke to my soul. I was hooked on a car I believed I would likely never even see in real life. \r\n\r\nFast forward 25+ years and suddenly one of these pops up here on BaT (the absolute best website for cars ever). The kid in me was beyond excited. The adult in me was nervous and apprehensive (and also a little broke having just bought another vehicle). I was staring at a car I had dreamed about for a lifetime. A car that my gearhead friends had mostly never heard about except from my droning stories. Alas, apprehension got me and I didn\u2019t bid. I started regretting it the moment the auction ended. \r\n\r\nI found salvation a few short months later when one with this same headlight mod as this car popped up. There was no way I was going to let it get past me. I was meeting my MIL for the first time right as the auction was ending (and I mean right as!). Thankfully my wife loves cars as much as I do. As for the right hand drive, it is the most fun ever! You get to see all the beautiful scenery your passenger usually sees, and many a driver next to you will strike up a conversation at stop lights....especially when you put your dog in the \"drivers seat\" on the left. It takes all of five minutes to get used to it...the shifting is easy because you have no muscle memory in your left hand; it's the learning to keep centered in your lane that you have to think about. It's really not that difficult to get used to. I think it is far more difficult in people's minds than in reality. Sure, you are sitting on the opposite side of the car, shifting with the opposite hand but after a few miles of driving you get used to it. The most concerning part for me, as previously mentioned here is making sure you don't cross the center line on a two lane road, which can be more terrifying for the passenger rather than the driver, since the passenger is closest to the oncoming traffic. It's really not difficult to get used to. \r\nThe Cerbera certainly is a beast to drive. I was in the UK when I bought the car and driving on the tight little winding country roads in the UK was quite exhilarating. I did also make the 240 mile drive from central UK down to Southampton Port in the Cerbera on the UK motorways (interstate). The car didn't skip a beat and definitely has raw power. \r\nAs for shipping to the USA it was pretty straight forward. I had the UK V5 registration in my name already (and still have it). I contacted the shipping company, they gave me paperwork to complete and booked me on the ship. I delivered the car myself to Southampton Port in England (UK). My paperwork was forwarded to a customs broker here in the USA, I paid the required fees and duty to them. The customs broker informed me when the car cleared customs in Brunswick GA and sent me the release paperwork and off I went to pick it up. Confidence in ownership is provided by the amazing TVR community around the world offering a wealth of knowledge and support for every possible issue. Keep in mind that no two examples will be alike as each will have been tailored to its respective owners\u2019 preferences over the years.\n\nAs with any marque, when car values dip and become attainable to a wider audience, they often attract buyers who can afford to purchase but not maintain. This is certainly the case with TVR as they were designed to be affordable supercar slayers at launch. Cars with unresolved problems due to maintenance-thrifty owners tend to go back into the market and are sold cheaply to hopefuls without the funds for proper maintenance. Like any other performance car these are better avoided unless you enjoy headaches and big invoices.\n\nA regularly used and maintained TVR will reward you with a reliable and unique ownership experience, especially in the U.S. A 25 year old 50,000 mile example will have been used 2,000 miles per year on average. Both the AJP8 and AJP6 (Straight Six) engines are very strong units provided they have been properly maintained. A rebuild is nice and may inspire confidence but it is by no means essential. Lots of cars now happily crossing over the 100k mile mark and perform stronger than ever. I have both speed sixes and AJP8s in my collection with 65,000+ miles on each, no rebuilds, no breakdowns, just daily driven with regular maintenance. Given the low number of cars remaining, sub-20k mile cars that have been properly stored and maintained are increasingly rare and highly sought after for both collectors and drivers.\n\nFor the design, performance, rarity and true analogue experience they provide, the Cerbera is still very much undervalued. I suspect as these continue to enter the U.S. market (reducing the availability of top examples in the UK) and drivers discover the fantastic analogue experience they deliver, good examples will only appreciate.\n\nWith its Jekyll and Hyde comfortable GT to raw high-performance sports car abilities, it\u2019s incredible that the craftsman and engineers in Blackpool were allowed to build them at all!\n\n3am typing on a phone so forgive the rambling/grammar.
