At that time it was described as having an intermittent electrical/ignition problem that Eddins Moto was having trouble sorting... can't recall the specifics but would be good to know if was sorted + other service history.\n\nLast of the ribbon speedo cars before the switch to circular gauges, so you get the cool speedo with integrated gauges (oil pressure etc.) but with the bigger 1.8, motor.\n\nUnderneath looks nice and solid with what look like the correct De-Carbon shocks (hard to tell). One of the rubber exhaust hangers (there are a few) should be replaced soon as it's quite worn.\n\nMatching key set + fob is a big plus, for us Lancia nerds.\n\nAs Adan said, it's not an injected car so I would remove the grill badge. Original Interior is a plus, though there seems to be some sort of cheap fix under the driver's door arm rest (two screws in middle of door card). After mbaum sold it to him in 2009 (?), Adan repainted it, but prior to that it wore its original paint, and it still wears its original interior \u2013 down to the rubber mats. And when it was painted, Adan made sure that the metal flake matched the fine-grain original, and that the silver was the precise tint to match undisturbed original paint in the trunk. I saw the test panels before it was painted.\r\n\r\nPersonally, I\u2019d remove the added badging \u2013 the injection badge in the grille and the non-original \u201cPininfarina\u201d script from the trunk lid. It would also be a good idea to replace the rubber engine / subframe mounts, which appear to be past their \u2018sell-by\u2019 date, as well as the tires. Other than that there\u2019s really nothing to do here except drive it.\r\n\r\nIn the summer of 2009 when my Fulvia went into the shop for some electrical clean-up (which turned into a comprehensive resto project), Adan lent me this car for a couple of months. So I\u2019ve driven it both around town, on the highway, and on a day-long touring event. It handles very well, but it\u2019s not \u2018tossable\u2019 like an HF Fulvia; no one should mistake this for a canyon-carver. And it\u2019s not incredible quick by current standards; you won\u2019t win a street race against a Camry. But it\u2019s incredibly refined \u2013 the engine is silky-smooth and torquey \u2013 and it\u2019s an absolute joy to drive. When they saw this in place of the Fulvia, my neighbors couldn\u2019t stop telling me how much they admired it.\r\n\r\nWhen the Fulvia resto metastasized, I wasn\u2019t in a position to make an offer when Adan was looking to sell it. Everything on the car is like jewelry. That turn signal assembly that you can see in the pictures, for example, unscrews by hand via that large knurled nut. That chrome plated nut, and the rest of the switch, is all brass gears, like some sort of hefty Swiss watch. The valve covers, virtually invisible in this flat four, are cast aluminum with a crackle-black finish. As an ex-engineer, I've wrenched on all of my nearly 100 cars to date and these were the most \"engineered\" ones I've ever worked on (no Ferrari but I did have a Maserati 3500GTI and various Appia, Flaminia, and even Beta Lancias). The only reason I had two coupes was that I rescued a black over red one, for $500, from an owner whose mechanic mistimed it and bent the valves. Turns out it has a vernier-adjustment for valve timing that only an engineer could love. The radio actually worked when I had it and it took me a few months to figure out how to turn it on. IIRC, it is a push on one of the buttons. To my surprise, when I did it the first time, the antena comes up (It is automatic) and the radio has an auto search function for the stations which kicked in. It's the little things that make me giggle like a school boy ...\n\nWhen I had the car, there were a few cracks in the paint. But Adan of course, even more the perfectionist, painted the car (I think it is Grigio Newmarket or Grigio Auteuil - One can never know as Lancia had like 85 shades of silver ...) and detailed the engine. Mechanically, the only thing I remember was a rebuilt of the brake master. The car just went on and on in typical smooth, gentleman GT fashion. \n\nI am super happy that this car went to Adan and then to the seller. So it has always been with certified Lancia nuts once it came to the US. Now should I bit on this?\n\nSince I had both, the injected version and the 1.8 carb model (this car). Honestly, I might prefer the extra torque of the Kugelfischer cars but I could not fully tell you how much a difference it is. The 1500 is fantastic as well but suffers a bit from low power and more finicky two-carb set up.\r\n\r\nThe power and torque step-up to the 1800 was significant (IIRC 15% more power, over 20% more torque) so you will notice this immediately. The step-up was less so from the 1800 single carb to the Kugelfischer but power still got up another 10% or so.\r\n\r\nI have heard that a few actually prefer the non-injected version as the Kugelfischer can run a little rich. But given that is shares mostly everything with the BMW tii models, they are rather straight forward to maintain one you got your hands on the few set up things that are different.\r\n\r\nTHat's why I personally might give the heads up to the infection model but the difference is really very subtle. That also shows in the values. The injection models are not that significantly more expensive than carb 1800s - usually. As a matter of fact, I couldn't even tell you what it is as I do not have too many data points. \r\n\r\nAesthetically, they are all pretty much the same safe for the dash layout, with the injection models getting a more traditional two-round-dial set up versus the drum speedo that you see here on this car. And for late injection models, the steering wheel was two-spoke instead of this three-spoke wheel.\r\n\r\nAll models drive insanely more modern than their built date. The Flavias have been by far the most comfortable ride I ever had, save for the Citroens. It might be hearsay, but when going fast, they \"feel\" like a DS. Have not fully analyzed the suspension set up, but the ride is super posh with that typical Italian hint of sportiness. Here in LA with the most terrible roads in the US, it just eats up any road defects. The steering is the same for both and it is amazingly light once underway. The gearbox is the same for both models with a long lever and long but precise throws. The car can go all day long in the fast lane on the freeway and it will be rock solid while keeping you and your passengers very comfortable.
