I finally had the opportunity to buy an E39 M5 in Sterling over black/black sport after seeing this one pop up on BaT. I was looking for a top shelf driver's example - this is not a garage queen. I talk to the previous owner; really friendly guy that walked me through his ownership history and why he was selling (he was starting a business). It's been driven 12K miles since 2010 and has an extensive maintenance history. He had a PPI about 4 months before I bought it and I had one done last month. The only issue that was flagged for me was the drive shaft guibo clutch which Bob Smith BMW said, \"During inspection, found driveshaft guibo is cracking. Also found driveshaft cv joint torn at rear. Recommend to replace driveshaft guibo and driveshaft.\". Passing this along for maximum clarity, but the tech said it's not an immediate concern. So there's that and the tires needing to be replaced in the near term given their age. On the whole it's in great shape, a major buying point for me. I've included vids of the small stuff I looked for like rear windshield shade raising and lowering, sideview mirrors opening and folding, rear view mirror dimming. I also was pleasantly surprised on consistency of the paint readings (included in pics). It comes with a cover and trickle charger. Your pictures definitely do it justice and each picture is super clear so you can zoom in to your heart's content and see the details. Kudos to you for being fully transparent and including the PPI video as well! In my personal experience, I was quote around $1200 from a BMW dealer to replace the rear diff pinion seal on the driveshaft, unsure what a new guibo would cost, but most of the labor in this job is dropping the exhaust and heat shields. When any of this work is done the center support bearing is typically replaced as well. There are shops that supply professionally rebuild E39 M5 driveshafts that come complete with new U joints, a new center support bearing installed and balanced so the entire thing can go in during this job as a driveshaft replacement, and you can do the rear pinion seal and guibo while you're in there. I did all as a DIY, and have had to replace the rear pinion seal twice already in about 40K miles. There is an upgraded version Corteco makes that FCP sells for the E46 M3 that also works on the E39 M5, supposed to be a better, more robust design and last much longer.
