I've read/ heard that over 50 % of the Hertz cars; when returned to Shelby (he leased them to HERTZ); had different engines than when originally built ! Apparently, guys would rent the cars; swap out the engine from the rental to their Mustang and then return the car. Apparently, the Hertz employees were not very adept in identifying a true, original to the car, Shelby Mexican block when the car was returned ! This car survived that indignity ! Photo #143 shows the car on a two post lift with the front fenders removed and I'm assuming that this is what led to your question posed earlier today. \r\n\r\nAlthough the fenders were removed, it appears that the aprons were not, as is customary during a restoration. The aprons are what have the Ford confidential vins and the secondary Shelby stamp.\r\n\r\nWhen you look at a car like this for authenticity you have to check everything.
