It may not have the more solid fit and finish of the flagship LS400, but so many of the styling cues and features were advanced at the time that it\u2019s easy to fall into believing this is a car from the late \u201890s: frameless doors, a light-up keyhole in the driver\u2019s door, foldable mirrors, no rain gutters, projector headlights, and an aerodynamic look that many cars of its era were missing. The trunk lid also closes with an effortless flick rather than having to slam it shut or give it any amount of force whatsoever.\n\nIt\u2019s easy to forget that Lexus was a two-year-old company when the ES300 launched. It looks way more modern than the LS400 that was upstaging it.\n\nThe ES300\u2019s only shortcomings in hindsight are its rather plain interior and its quite normal driving experience. Lexus called it their \u201csports sedan\u201d in their ads; sporty it did look, but sporty it was not.
