I was looking for a rust free piece and this was it AND it was a Cadillac.\r\n\r\nThe car proudly wears 99% of it's original lacquer paint and when the sun hits it just right it reveals the brown primer beneath. It's a sinister looking \"survivor\" body sitting on a pro-touring chassis/drivetrain.\r\n\r\nThe engine and trans were purchased new from Roger Dean Chevrolet in West Palm Beach Fl in Dec 2015. This is the advanced, bullet proof, all aluminum, 6.2 liter V8 used in the ZL1 Camaro that makes 580 HP and 556 Lb-ft out of the box. Add long tube headers and a full 3\" exhaust and you're easily making over 600 HP at the crank. The top of the passenger side front fender was repainted because an overzealous body shop guy buffed right through the paint to the primer (see pic). The underside of the hood and the front air dam were also painted. The entire underside of the car was stripped to bare metal, rear wheel wells mini-tubbed, trunk & back seat floors channeled to accommodate the Independent Rear Suspension, drive shaft (see pics) and any other repairs made where necessary. The underside was then painted with POR (Paint Over Rust), then sealed with bedliner to preserve the car (see pics). Other than that, the paint and metal is all original.\r\nGlass & Trim- The glass is original and shows some delamination at the edges which adds to the cool factor. Both front fender rock guards were replaced along with the passenger side rear fender spear (described in walk around vid). It does not float down the road, it does not have a cush ride. This one of a kind Pro-Touring 1949 Cadillac handles like it\u2019s on rails, goes where you point it, corners like a much smaller car, stops on a dime and will go as fast as you dare take it. The Corbeau harnesses are there for safety as is the third brake light. The fact that the car has almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution front to back and side to side (see setup sheet) ensures a firm, confident ride which puts YOU in control of the vehicle. Prior to the run at Daytona the car was brought to BSI Racing where the car was aligned and weighed on all four corners (see setup sheet pic) results as follows: Wheelbase= 126\u2033. Total weight- 4,439, total front 2,062 / 46.5%, total rear 2,377 / 53.6%, total left 2,233 / 50.3%, total right 2,206 / 49.7%, total LF-RR cross 2,224 / 50.1%, total RF-LR cross 2,215 / 49.9%. Amazing numbers for a 75 year old modified vehicle.\r\n\r\nThe engine & trans \u201ctune\u201d is best described as \u201cconservative / normal / for me\u201d. The car was programed by Redline Tuning in Daytona while I was driving it with Denis sitting next to me. That means the car behaves beautifully in traffic, is easy to drive around town on normal roads and highways and that shifts are NOT held to some ridiculous RPM for some sporty feel. However, when you put your foot into it, all bets are off and you had better pay attention because things will happen very quickly (see the driving vid). You\u2019ll find it comfortable cruising on the interstate moving around and past pretty much anything on the road. Cruising on I-95 at 80/90 mph, the engine will be at 2,300-2,500 rpm and you\u2019ll be waving back at the people you\u2019re passing. Working with E3 Upholstery in Pompano Beach, the interior was totally re-imagined with bucket seats and console with tasteful enhancements that could have easily been made in 1949. Beautifully finished in Thema Ginger Leather, Honey Street Suede and imported Fine Tuft Velour Carpet the interior oozes Cadillac design, comfort and class. Legroom is plentiful, I\u2019m 6 ft, 3\u2033 and my seat can go back even further.\r\n\r\nFront and rear air conditioning is provided by Nostalgia Air with four front vents made from an original radio grill. Sound comes from a hidden Pioneer AVIC 7100 touch screen audio system with rear view camera, 2 amplifiers, 8 speakers and subwoofer provide rich and deep sound to the plush cabin (see pics and vid).\r\n\r\nAll the gauges were sent to Redline Gauge Works in Calif. for recalibration and rebuilding. The speedometer was recalibrated from 110 mph to 160 mph, oil pressure, battery, gas, water temp, trans temp and boost were all recalibrated to work with the LSA computer. All the fonts & colors match, the clock was converted to quartz and an additional clock was made into a tach (see dash pics).\r\n\r\nThe original steering wheel was sent to Quality Restorations in Calif for re-working. It was shrunk and re-built with the butterscotch acrylic color chosen. The other little bits ie: directional signal and steering column adjuster are also done in matching acrylic (see pic with drawings). Toggle switches are used in the console for the sound system and future power windows.\r\n\r\nWhile the car has front and rear air conditioning it does not have a heater. The larger Vintage Air unit would have required cutting the firewall and would have hung below the dash, both unacceptable to me. The car is in Florida and the heater was not that important. The power is put to the ground by a custom Art Morrison chassis engineered to handle 900 HP and powder coated in Silver Vein for a lasting, industrial, Gotham City look. The high tech LS engine in it's base mode provides a solid foundation for those who want more power. For a few bucks, a \u201cstage one, bolt on upgrade\u201d requires changing the top pulley, changing injectors etc and modifying the tune and voila you\u2019ll get 150 more HP. So now you're riding around in a classic Cadillac with 750 HP that will behave in traffic AND you\u2019re still on pump gas. These engines are incredibly flexible and can be modified to deliver over 1,000 HP. At its core this Pro-Touring Cadillac was built to handle the turns and straight aways of a serious road course. In normal driving you never really test or stress the cars limits unless it\u2019s an emergency. What better way to find out how the car will handle in high stress driving situations than to run it on a closed track like Daytona? (see pics/vids).\r\n\r\nBefore its tech inspection at the track, the visor was removed, the car was looked over by CMMC in Daytona for road worthiness and safety. The car was then brought to BSI Racing in Daytona for a more technical inspection and setup for the track. At BSI Racing the car was aligned and weighed on all four corners (see setup sheet pic) results as follows: Wheelbase= 126\u2033. Total weight- 4,439, total front 2,062 / 46.5%, total rear 2,377 / 53.6%, total left 2,233 / 50.3%, total right 2,206 / 49.7%, total LF-RR cross 2,224 / 50.1%, total RF-LR cross 2,215 / 49.9%. Amazing numbers for a 75 year old modified vehicle.\r\n\r\nAt the track there were three driver classes: novice, intermediate and advanced, we ran in intermediate (I had driven a Nascar type car at Homestead Speedway). The cars in each class ranged from Porsche, BMW (crashed), Corvette (crashed), Camaro, Audi and one spectacular 49 Cadillac. There were three 5 lap sessions for each group. Our first session was cut short after 2 laps due to a crash (see vid), but you\u2019ll get a passengers view of the Cadillac running at Daytona. The second session went all five laps and I screwed up the camera but there\u2019s a short video taken from the infield.\r\n\r\nDuring those five laps I just enjoyed the S**T out of the car!. I realized to get \u201ctrack serious\u201d you\u2019ll need paddle shifters and racing slicks (I had neither) so I was passed in the corners by the lighter cars (as rules require by the SCCA) but no one came close on the high banks and straight aways. In fact, on the fourth lap I was moving up on people and saw I was at 130 mph and the car had more to give, I had a pucker moment and decided that\u2019s enough for the car AND me. I can say during the entire event my foot never went to the floor. For me at 73 years old it was a thrill, the car performed brilliantly and validated the hard work and technology we used. After that there was no need to go out for the third session.
