I purchased the car for my own purposes. I have a thing for 80-90s fords, I have owned many trucks, Mark VIII's, crown Victoria's, and a town car in there. After seeing it, a friend of mine suggested bringing it to BAT due to its overall condition. I have a few vehicles at the moment, so it was something of an impulse buy. \r\n\r\nAs for the ownership history. The person I bought it from claimed it was his grandmothers. My understanding is the original owner passed, it was inherited to a family member maybe a spouse, then inherited to the owner I received it from. I cannot confirm that, but it was the idea I was presented with. \r\n\r\nThere are no maintenance records to speak of, however, I am confident it was properly maintained. In one of the videos, I show a complete lack of blow-by. This I think indicated timely oil changes. All other fluids are of the correct color and in good shape. \r\n\r\nWhen I have a car of age in Virginia (25 years or older) I register it as antique. It saves on registration fees down the line and eliminates the requirement for an annual inspection. The second generation body style like this one is very pretty from my point of view. We have put over700,000 miles on them with very little trouble. The 3.0 liter engine is very durable and can run for many miles.\r\n\r\nThese are just great running cars. Comfortable, dependable, easy to service with parts that are plentiful and cheap. The key to being a happy Taurus owner is in giving them good service. Drain the ATF at 50K miles. Put a drain plug in the pan. Change the transmission filter. Use synthetic ATF and drain some off and replace every 25,000 miles and the transmission will run for many miles. Service the car well and it can run all day at 70 with no complaints.\r\n\r\nThis is the car that saved Ford from bankruptcy in the 1980's. Another commenter called it an unremarkable car and perhaps it is. But some day people will wish for cars like this. My wife just bought a new Camry. It's filled with complex technology that I hate. In order to replace the rear brake pads, you need a $3,000 tool. It's not an easy car to service, which means that it will be expensive. My wife recently had a close call with another car and had to make an emergency avoidance. The Camry's electronic system fought her efforts to change lanes to avoid the accident. I hate this new car.\r\n\r\nThese 1990's cars have all of the technology that you need. sequential port fuel infection, disc brakes up front, rack & pinion steering, anti-sway bar and air bag. Easy to work on.
