I think part of it is that it doesn't feel as bulky as the last generation. My TC was also originally my father's who gave it to me unexpectedly when I visiting them on the East Coast, so I immediately took it on a road trip back home to New Mexico. I drove cross-country at least 4 times, maybe more, and as mentioned below, it has an excellent ride, even with Bilstein Crown Vicki police shocks, and did a consistent 25MPG at 70+ miles per hour. By the way, I always took my CB with me on cross-country trips to listen to the truckers. When I received my TC from my father it had original style Michelins, but when it came time for new tires I went with Goodyear.
