As mentioned in the article in the G&D from VCCA (in the pic's) when the car came back from the lease to GM the gentleman that restored it, I'll call him K, he sold the car to a mutual friend we had. I bugged my friend for years and finally he called one day and said it was time. I can ask K if he has any additional documents but I doubt it. He did tell me he learned of the car for sale from a friend and it was a bit of a barn find. A pic shows the car the day he picked it up. K told me he went to see the Camaro and realized it was an SS/RS big block car when he saw it and immediately jumped on it. It had spent a good portion of its life in Colorado but made its way to NY at some point, that is where K found it. I haven't spoken to K about the sale so I don't want to volunteer his info without checking with him first. He still judges at the Camaro Nationals. I drove the car there this past July, a 220 mile round trip. I believe he gave our mutual friend everything he had, there was no build sheet. He even gave me a movie ticket from a Denver movie theatre he found under the seat when doing the restoration. Unfortunately I'm not aware of any source that can verify what the car was equipped with when built other than the tag on the firewall with paint & upholstery codes. So here's a bit of information and history from my perspective. Apologies in advance since this is long...\r\n\r\n I purchased this Camaro around 1996 in Poughkeepsie, NY. It was in pieces backed into a garage. The guy I bought it from recalled buying it (circa 1983-86) from 'a teacher' who he thought drove it to NY from Colorado. During the work I did on it, I found the movie ticket (from Aurora, CO) that supports it could have been there. At the time I owned it, I did not know of the Red White Chevrolet origins, I don't believe NCRS was offering the search service back then. During my restoration of the car, I became to know a few reps from Chevrolet, hence how the car got involved with the Legends Tour. Shortly after returning from the tour, I sold the Camaro to a friend, who owned it for I think about 4-5 years, at which time Pete became the new owner.\r\n\r\n As for documentation, I did not find a build sheet (trust me I looked), nor was the original warranty booklet (POP) in place. I purchased this car simply as a \"68 Camaro V8\", it was buried and backed into a garage with no front sheet metal attached. Only until it was out of the garage did I start to notice 'things'. Backup lights below the rear bumper (RS), what looked like a JC Whitney add on in rear window deck (the first found remnants of the FiberOptics), heaterbox with hose holes in it (396), etc. It did have a motor in it at that time, but was a smallblock. Once I got it home and did a thorough inspection I started to realize what it was. From that point on it was my intent to \"restore\" the car to what it was. No options were added, and non were eliminated. I simply wanted to bring it back to how it was in 1968.\r\n\r\n As mentioned by the seller (Pete), the car does have a replacement motor, however where possible, and in most cases, I obtained PN and date correct components throughout, even down to the correct # pulleys. Smog pump is rebuilt (hollowed) along with NOS diverter valve, and correct brackets, etc. I have a sheet somewhere with all the engine component #'s in my 'file', just haven't found it yet. Regarding the engine (again all correct # and dated block, intake& exhaust manifolds, carb, distributor (from Jerry MacNeish),etc. The engine itself was completely rebuilt and balanced, everthing done, including retrofitting a hydraulic roller cam kit and has been running fine since then. Exhaust system is from Gardner as well. For the record, I 'reset' the odometer to zero when doing the car over, I'd need to look back through photos to see what the original mileage was, I am thinking 60-70,000 range. The Trans and Rear are original to the car, the trans being partial VIN stamped (\"18N416812), with code \"P8D04\" (Muncie-M20, 1968, April 04) and rear with code \"BL 0401 G2\" (3:07:1, April 1st, Detroit Gear&Axle). \r\n\r\n Regarding BB Camaros, it's not he firewall that is different, just the heater box (heater hoses come through the box). Additionally, there are different motor frame mounts (LH#3912597, RH#3912598) along with a different trans crossmember, all of which this car has, and had when I purchased it back around 1996. \r\n\r\n From the photo Pete added, I brought the car home in pieces, with GM quarters already on (coated in veraprime) along with GM fenders. Doors, entire floorpan and the rest of the body panels were rust free and are all original to the car.\r\n\r\nThe build count for 1968 Camaros with the U46 (Vigilite Light Monitoring System) was 1755.\r\n\r\n Lastly, to answer the question everyone has... Why the heck did you sell it? Sure, we all have mixed emotions, but I wasn't driving it. When it came back from the GM tour, it was just sitting in the garage and I thought, you know, it's time for someone else to enjoy it.\r\n It's bittersweet to see it up for sale (leaving the 'family' so to speak) since I know Pete, and the prior owner.
