I currently own one with a 215 Oldsmobile aluminum block V8 with a great sound and a power takeoff winch. The other two I still have are a M38 and M38A1. These engines don\u2019t like to rev, so no highways, even with overdrive, but they move the Jeep well in the woods in a lower gear. You are not going to have more fun in the woods putsin along, with a foot hanging out, than with this. Finally after a couple of months of driving under 5 MPH, I unhooked the Jeep when everyone had gone to lunch and drove it onto the highway for a big thrill. The thing almost shook me out of the seat. I made a u-turn and made it back before I got caught. I was 12-13 years old. Big adventure. Had a lot of fun with it a few years later on the beach at Daytona pulling stuck cars out of the sand for tips or beers. Every kid should learn to drive on an old Jeep.
